In a rather successful afternoon for the local baseball and softball teams, Ellwood City baseball and softball teams both earned victories while the Riverside baseball team defeated Aliquippa handily. Wolverines Grab Lead In Fifth Inning For Victory Over Freedom Area Ellwood City bounced back from a four run deficit and stole the lead late, defeating Freedom 8-4 on the road Tuesday. COACH TALK: Riverside Softball Looking For New Wave of Success

The Riverside Panthers softball team will be welcomed with an onslaught of younger, talented players this year according to head coach Gerilynn Cummings. Riverside Panthers Varsity’s effort to come back from down four runs in the first inning came up just short, as they fell 6-5 to Brownsville on Tuesday. Riverside scored five runs in the failed comeback on a error in the first, a error in the first, and a single by Drew Speicher in the fifth. Riverside Varsity Will Advance to Next Round of WPIAL Playoffs

With a hard fought 3 to 1 victory, Riverside Baseball Team will advanced to the next round of the WPIAL Playoffs. Both teams were strong on the pitcher’s mound Monday, but Riverside Panthers Varsity defeated Steel Valley 3-1. Riverside  pitchers allowed just three hits to Steel Valley. EC Jr High Softball Remains Unbeaten After 10th Straight Win The Lady Wolverines traveled to Ambridge on Wednesday afternoon and made quick work of the Bridgers. The mercy rule stopped the game after 3 innings and the team returned home with a 15-0 victory.   The bats were on fire as nine different players banged out 15 hits. Sean Busby Shuts Out Mohawk Area, Wolverines Take The Win. Sean Busby didn’t allow a single run as Ellwood City Wolverines defeated Mohawk Area 3-0 on Tuesday. Busby allowed just one hit. Danny Fox had all the right stuff on Tuesday for the Riverside Panthers, allowing zero runs and besting New Brighton by a score of 10-0 Riverside tallied five runs in the third inning. Drew Speicher, Brian MacMurdo, Ty Thellman, and Fox each had RBIs in the big inning. Fox was the winning pitcher for Riverside, he went five innings, allowing zero runs on five hits and striking out six. Riverside used late scoring outbursts to help easily dispatched Ellwood City 8-2 on Monday afternoon at Sanders Field in Ewing Park. EC JR HIGH SOFTBALL TEAM REMAINS UNDEFEATED BEATS MOHAWK 14-0 The offense started out on fire as they plated 13 runs in the first inning on Friday night at Stiefel Park. The game was halted after 5 innings as the mercy rule took effect. Kyla Servick, Kali Barnett, and Grace Balin led the charge with doubles.
