Riverside Varsity Claws Back, But Falls Just Short Against Brownsville

Riverside Panthers Varsity’s effort to come back from down four runs in the first inning came up just short, as they fell 6-5 to Brownsville on Tuesday. Riverside scored five runs in the failed comeback on a error in the first, a error in the first, and a single by Drew Speicher in the fifth.

Riverside was right in it until Brownsville singled in the seventh inning.

Brownsville got things moving in the first inning. Brody Bagwell singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Riverside knotted the game up at five in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Speicher singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

Trevor Stewart was the winning pitcher for Brownsville. He lasted one inning, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking zero.

Nick Ottaviani took the loss for Riverside. He allowed four hits and one run over five and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking one.

Danny Fox started the game for Riverside. He surrendered five runs on seven hits over one inning, striking out two and walking zero Josh Davison started the game for Brownsville. He surrendered five runs on two hits over six innings, striking out three

Speicher and Ben Hughes each collected one hit to lead Riverside.

Brownsville racked up 11 hits in the game. Bagwell, D.J. Zimcosky, and Colton Dellarose all collected multiple hits for Brownsville.

The Riverside Baseball Team will compete in a PIAA PLAY IN GAME on Tuesday, May 29, at 2PM at W&J Baseball Field against South Side High School. The team will leave at 11:15 and will be dismissed after eating first lunch.
