What better way to roll out the spring baseball season, than to have two rivals host a home-and-home series? The crosstown rivals, Ellwood City and Riverside, each will quickly get acquainted with one another beginning Monday, March 27th when the Wolverines will host the Panthers in Ewing Park to begin regular season section play. PIAA Playoffs: Panthers Fall To Neshannock In Extra Innings

Thursday’s game at against Neshannock was a heartbreaker for the Riverside Panthers, as they lost an early lead, could not capitalize late, and end up on the losing end of the PIAA Class 2A quarterfinal contest in extra innings. The game was tied at four with Neshannock batting in the top of the eleventh when Jake Rynd singled on a 2-2 count, scoring the game winning run to advance the Lancers to the PIAA semifinals. The Riverside Panthers got out to a five-run lead in the fourth inning and held on for a 5-3 victory over District 6 champion Mount Union on Monday in the opening round of the PIAA Class-2A Playoffs. Panthers starter Ronnie Harper pitched a gem Thursday, twirling five shutout innings as Riverside easily blanked the visiting Wolverines 10-0. Harper allowed just three hits. He struck out six batters and did not issue a walk. The Panthers, now 7-1 overall, secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the second inning.
