Summer 2026 Update: Beaver River Bridge Replacement Project

Spanning 1,645 feet in length, the $294M Beaver River Bridge Replacement Project is currently in stage 4 of construction as summer wraps up.

According to a press release made available on the PATurnpike.com website, all four piers and pier tables for the westbound Beaver River Bridge crossing have been completed. Fifteen-foot segmental concrete placements are finished from westbound Piers 1 and 4 headings. Segmental concrete placements for Piers 2 and 3 headings are nearing completion. Closure segment placements were scheduled for July and August and will complete the connection of the westbound bridge deck.

Mainline Pennsylvania Turnpike lanes have been shifted south to allow for earthwork, grading and asphalt paving for the roadway realignment leading to the new river-crossing structures.

Cast-in-place end segments at the abutments are underway, with completion expected by early fall. Two piers (Piers 1 and 4) have been completed for the eastbound Beaver River Bridge crossing, and pier table construction has been completed at these piers. Pier construction is nearing completion for eastbound Piers 2 and 3. Pier table installation will begin once these piers are completed.

Most excavation for the new roadway realignment is complete, with limited excavation remaining for the new configuration of the Beaver Valley Interchange. Bridge deck construction for WB-209 (Interstate 76 over State Route 18) is complete. Erosion and sediment controls remain in place throughout the project. Reconstruction of Big Beaver Boulevard (State Route 18) continues with traffic shifted to the newly reconstructed lanes. Paving and mountable curb installation on SR 18 will continue through the summer. New sanitary sewer lines and upgraded storm drainage systems have been completed.

Traffic entering and exiting I-76 eastbound and westbound is using temporary ramp configurations. Drivers should use caution and follow posted signage. Please use caution throughout the work zone for intermittent flagging operations and construction vehicle access.

Traffic on River Road (State Route 1001) has intermittent stoppages by flagging for work zone access. Thompson Run Road has been closed to traffic since July 23, 2023, for regrading and realignment. It will reopen when construction activity allows.

Funded solely through toll dollars, it is reported to be the largest contract in Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission history, carrying a price tag of $269 million.
