Wolverines Advance To WPIAL Quarterfinals With Upset Victory Over Avonworth

Steve Antuono, Alexander Roth, and Joseph Roth provided a balanced scoring attack and Ellwood City used a strong performance in the fourth quarter to earn its 58-53 victory over Avonworth Thursday night at North Allegheny HS. The victory advanced the 11-seeded Wolverines (11-4 overall) into the quarterfinals of the Class-3A Playoffs. Riverside Swimming Looking To Make Splash at WPIAL Championships

The co-op swimming team consisting of Ellwood City and Riverside athletes is off to the WPIAL Championships this weekend carrying their third consecutive undefeated Class-AA section title with them. Class AA and Class AAA championship meets March 6-7 at Upper St. Clair High School. Local athletes set to compete include senior Graham Kralic (50 freestyle), sophomore Sam Kline (100 freestyle), freshman Joe Roth (100 backstroke), junior Alex Roth (100 freestyle), and freshman Ryan Turner (100 freestyle). Local Special Effects Expert Creates Ellwood City’s First Escape Room

FearScapes, known for its terrifying walk-through haunt in Ellwood City during the Halloween season, is opening a new attraction, Escape FearScapes, on March 15th. The Ellwood City Wolverines girls and boys basketball teams each defeated the Panthers and swept the rivalry doubleheader Tuesday night at Riverside High School. The girls ran away with a 42-12 victory in the first game while the boys used a strong second half to collect its 80-53 victory in the second game of the evening. For the girls, the cousin duo of Junior Kyla Servick and Freshman Claire Noble combined for 30 points. Mark Schaas, 55, passed away in his home surrounded by his wife of almost 30 years, family, and friends. After a valiant, three year, battle with cancer he is now pain free, in the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ. LCCTC Students Receive Pride and Promise Award

Seven area students recently were selected as “Pride and Promise Award’ winners for the month of February by the Lawrence County Career and Technical Center (LCCTC) during the school’s February Joint Operating Committee meeting. Each senior Health Assistant student passed the TNAT (Temporary Nurse Aide Test) which (because of Covid) is equivalent to the standard CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) test.
