Punxsutawney Phil Predicts Six More Weeks of Winter

Keep the shovels and snow plows out Ellwood City! Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter on Tuesday during the annual Groundhog Day ceremony in Pennsylvania. Among cardboard cutouts of fans who had hoped to be there in person at Gobbler’s Knob park in Jefferson County, Phil was greeted by his handler, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club President Jeff Lundy, and made the prognosis of the prolonged winter. Ellwood City School District Announces Spring Musical Dates

Roth Scores 31, Ellwood City Defeats Rochester

Freshman Joseph Roth scored 31 points and Ellwood City used an impressive fourth quarter to pull away for a 61-50 non-section victory over Rochester Tuesday night. Ellwood City outscored the visiting Rams 19-3 in the fourth quarter after trailing by five points entering the final frame. Bernstine Bill on Parole Process for Violent Offenders Passes House Committee

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) announced today that his legislation which focuses on the parole process for violent offenders in the wake of the 2019 murder of a child in Lawrence County, passed the House Judiciary Committee. Wolverine Wrestling Collects One Win In Laurel Duals Tournament

The Ellwood City Wolverines wrestling team finished 1-4 in the 2021 Laurel Duals wrestling tournament over the weekend at Laurel High School. The Wolverines collected its 39-24 victory over New Castle on Saturday in the opening round of the tournament. Wolf Announces $600 Pandemic Relief Awards to Eligible Child Care Employees

On Wednesday, Governor Tom Wolf announced the opportunity for one-time, $600 grants for child care workers across Pennsylvania. The funds are available to child care providers licensed by the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) through federal Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) quality dollars and remaining funding previously made available through federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act allocated for child care providers. “A healthy, vibrant child care industry is a cornerstone of a healthy economy. Lady Wolverines Surge In Second Quarter, Race Past Riverside

The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines used a 21-1 second quarter surge to race past the visiting Riverside Panthers 45-11 Monday Night at Lincoln High School. After exchanging scores early in the first quarter, Ellwood City posted their impressive run in the second quarter taking an 8-6 advantage to a comfortable 29-7 halftime lead.  Great defense translated to multiple fast break points and layups for the Lady Wolverines.
