Ellwood City Public Library Activities For Week of April 19

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. NOTE OPEN The Library will be open by appointment only. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

ASSAULT: A 27-year-old female from New Castle is charged with Simple Assault and Harrassment after an incident on April 10 in Wayne Township, Lawrence County. According to the PA State Police report, Caitlin Gardner engaged in a verbal altercation with her 56-year-old mother that led to Gardner pushing her mother as she left her residence on Ellwood Road. The resulting fall caused minor injuries to the victim. BURGLARY: A burglary was reported on Van Gorder Mill Road in Perry Township between time the times of April at midnight and April 10 at noon. James L. Hoover, 93

James L. Hoover, 93, of Austintown, Ohio, passed away at the Austin Wood Care Facility on April 14, 2021. James was born in Ellwood City on April 13, 1928, son to the late Leo and Lillian Kistner Hoover. After graduating from high school, James enlisted in the United States Navy and was discharged with honors. He married his first wife, Margaret King, in 1952, and after her passing, he married Shirleen Porter on May 29, 1971, who also preceded James in death. Lawrence County Announces $500M In Grant Funding For Paving Projects

Lawrence County is announcing $523,291.51 in grant funding for municipal paving projects through the Lawrence County Transportation Improvement Program, assisting with $1,590,708.04 in total paving project cost for 21 projects in 14 municipalities. “We’re glad to be able to assist our municipalities with this much needed infrastructure funding. While Lawrence County ultimately does not own any roads, infrastructure is a top priority for the Board of Commissioners and we will continue to fight for more funding to pave more roads and repair more bridges,” said Morgan Boyd, Chairman, Lawrence County Board of Commissioners. Ellwood City Softball Earns Big Comeback With Walkoff Victory

The Ellwood City softball team displayed a tremendous amount of character and grit with a great walk off win over Avonworth Wednesday afternoon at Stiefel Park. The team overcame two different deficits by scoring seven runs over the final two innings to earn the 7-6 victory. Hard hitting left fielder Mollie Street ended things in the bottom of the seventh with a one out two strike sacrifice fly to score Aliya Garroway from third base and the celebration began. THREE CHEERS: Wolverines Baseball/Softball Victorious, Riverside Pounds ‘Quips

In a rather successful afternoon for the local baseball and softball teams, Ellwood City baseball and softball teams both earned victories while the Riverside baseball team defeated Aliquippa handily. Wolverines Grab Lead In Fifth Inning For Victory Over Freedom Area Ellwood City bounced back from a four run deficit and stole the lead late, defeating Freedom 8-4 on the road Tuesday. 2021 Ellwood City Festival Postponed

According to its social media post Tuesday evening, the Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Foods, and Entertainment Festival Committee has cancelled its 2021 event. This postponement marks a second consecutive year the festival has been canceled due to coronavirus safety concerns. In its statement: After months of planning and deliberation, it is with deep regret that the Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food and Entertainment Festival Committee announces the cancellation of the 2021 Festival. Ellwood City Softball Splits With Keystone Oaks & Union Over The Weekend

The Lincoln High School softball team took advantage of terrific weekend weather and played two games. They lost to Keystone Oaks on Friday and bounced back with a win against Union on Saturday.
