Christmas Tree Disposal Information

With the Christmas season winding down, the once lively trees that brought joy and light up our homes are dying and needles are rapidly covering homes. According to a release made available Monday, Ellwood City Borough residents may drop off their live Christmas trees (decorations removed) for disposal at Stiefel Park, just inside the park entrance from Brighton Road, now through January 31.  There will be a sign to mark the disposal drop location.  Drop off will be available during normal hours the park is open to the public. Richard Melvin Klingensmith, 81

Richard Melvin Klingensmith, 81, of Waycross, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 31, 2020, at his daughter’s residence, following an extended illness. He was born September 15, 1939 in Ellwood City, PA, where he grew up and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy for six years. He served as a firefighter on the USS Ingraham. He moved to southeast Georgia in 1975 and had lived in both Pierce and Ware County. He was a retired truck driver, having been the owner of RK Trucking. Casper W. DeFilippo, 95

Mr. Casper W. DeFilippo, 95, of Ellwood City passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Hospice in Beaver. Born December 23, 1923 in Ellwood City a son of the late John and Mary (Montango) DeFilippo. He was a 1941 graduate of Lincoln High School. He enlisted with the U.S. Army on May 27, 1943 and served with the 9th Field Artillery Battalion Battery B until his discharge on November 25, 1945 with the rank of Technician 5th Grade. Wolves Club Den 11 Holds Annual Memorial Tribute

The spirit of Wolves Club Den II founders was honored at a Holy Redeemer Parish Sunday Mass followed by breakfast at Carusone’s in Ellwood City, PA.  The tribute took place on November 1, 2020. At the breakfast, President Mike DeOtto welcomed all those in attendance and recognized both the widows and board members present. WAYBACK WEDNESDAY: Ellwood City Nativity Scene

It has been nearly a decade since circumstances forced the removal of a Nativity scene set in front of the Ellwood City Municipal Building washing out 50 years of tradition in Ellwood City. In 2011, the Freedom from Religion Foundation threatened to sue Ellwood City if officials didn’t remove a Nativity scene that the borough had erected on the property. Ultimately, borough officials agreed to move the Nativity to a different location.
