PHOTOS: Ellwood City Sweeps Riverside In Doubleheader

The Ellwood City Wolverines girls and boys basketball teams each defeated the Panthers and swept the rivalry doubleheader Tuesday night at Riverside High School. The girls ran away with a 42-12 victory in the first game while the boys used a strong second half to collect its 80-53 victory in the second game of the evening. For the girls, the cousin duo of Junior Kyla Servick and Freshman Claire Noble combined for 30 points. Mark Schaas, 55

Mark Schaas, 55, passed away in his home surrounded by his wife of almost 30 years, family, and friends. After a valiant, three year, battle with cancer he is now pain free, in the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ. LCCTC Students Receive Pride and Promise Award

Seven area students recently were selected as “Pride and Promise Award’ winners for the month of February by the Lawrence County Career and Technical Center (LCCTC) during the school’s February Joint Operating Committee meeting. Each senior Health Assistant student passed the TNAT (Temporary Nurse Aide Test) which (because of Covid) is equivalent to the standard CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) test. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

RESISTING ARREST: According to a Pennsylvania State Police Public Information Release Report, Andrew Mercado, 33, of Koppel, was charged with resisting arrest after a warrant was executed on February 10, 2021. According to the report, Mercado was uncooperative and was subsequently charged with resisting arrest at a Wayne Township residence. Charges filed and will be pending through the District Magistrate Jerry Cartwright office. Mercado was incarcerated at the Lawrence County Jail. The Ellwood City Borough Council is advertising the vacancies on the Zoning Hearing Board and looking for applicants. The Borough is seeking one (1) applicant for the Zoning Hearing Board and two (2) applicants for Zoning Hearing Board Alternate. New Middletown – William J. Barber 69, passed away at his residence on Sunday morning February 14, 2021. He was born December 2, 1951 in Ellwood City, PA, a son of William G. and Mary K. “Hobo” Dinner Planned For ‘All Aboard Ellwood’ Fundraiser

The Ellwood City McDonald’s along with the “All Aboard Ellwood” committee is holding a ‘hobo’ fundraising event on March 1, 2021.
