Ellwood City Borough Asking Residents For Selection On New Trash Program

The Borough of Ellwood City recently awarded its trash contract to Valley Waste and is now asking its residents to their choose desired options via several form options made available this week.

From information made available by the Borough and from its new Facebook Page, the following options are available with the new contract and borough residents are asked to choose one from following:

  • 96 Gallon Trash and Recycle Bin $17.69/month
  • 35 Gallon Trash and Recycle Bin $14.94/month
  • Bag program $25.00/ 10 bags

The charges for options 1 and 2 will be added to the residential electric bill each month. If you choose option 3, bags will continue to be available for purchase from local merchants. The price for all 3 options includes recycling and yard waste. There will be NO $3.00 recycling fee on your utility bill each month any longer at the start of the program for all three options.

You can communicate your choice by using one of several different options available:

  1. Fill out the google document by clicking this link: www.forms.gle/bjWWfTpd9SyNFUuG8
  2. You may email the borough your name, address, phone number and choice.  A new e-mail dedicated to this process can be used to submit your choice: trash@ellwoodcityborough.com
  3. Return a printed and completed form that will be left on all doors.  Completed forms can be submitted in the Borough drop box behind the municipal building or dropped at the Borough Electric Office window during normal hours.
  4. Call at 724-758-7777 and connect to the utility billing office.

In addition, representatives from the Borough will be calling residents as well to ensure all residents have the opportunity to submit their choice. If you speak with a borough representative, they will record your choice.

The new contract with Valley Waste begins in June 2021.

A printable form is available as a JPG image below or by viewing/printing the PDF document.

I all ready have a yard waste bin ($62), and a recycle bin ($62). You’re stopping the $3 monthly recycling charge, but now want to charge $17.69 monthly for the large. Does this include trash, recycling, and yard waste in the same container? If this is so, can I turn in my yard waste container and my recycling container and get the $62 ea. refunded? Then go to the 35 gallon container. I am on fixed income so changes like this make me poorer so I have to save were I can! Please give a clearer picture to me as I am old !

  2. While I appreciate the change, as this is much needed. The borough really needs to step up in getting information out to people. The only reason I knew about this is because my father-in-law told me. I saw no mailers, no emails, received no phone calls to alert us of this change. Then saw they automatically sign unresponsive homes up for the most expensive option (coincidence, I don’t think so)

Also, we are now merely 6 days from implementation and there is still no information on how we receive the new trash containers. Will they be delivered? Do we need to pick them up? Where?

All of this should have been addressed long ago. Yet another seemingly simple thing that is handled poorly by this poorly run city.

  3. Surprise surprise. Garbage and yard waste pickup in 5th Ward today. Is it too hard for out borough officials to print out a pickup schedule for garbage, recycling and yard waste for the Borough of Ellwood City? You call Valley Waste , first your lucky if someone answers the phone and second depending who you talk to you get a different answer. You are elected officials The the mgr is head of the Borough. Did ANYONE “think” to send an “ understandable “ schedule that some of us that aren’t as smart as YOU evidently, can understand? The whole situation is a disgrace
