Mayor Court Proclaims Joseph Connor Roth Day

Ellwood City Mayor Anthony J. Court proclaimed April 4, 2024 as Joseph Connor Roth day in the Borough of Ellwood City. Roth was recognized as being the all-time leading scorer in Ellwood City Boys’ Basketball with 2,109 points in his career. He was a four year starter and helped Ellwood City win the WPIAL Class-3A title in the 2020-21 season. His point total placed him 5th overall in Lawrence County all-time scoring and in the top 30 All-time in the WPIAL. A four run fourth inning proved pivitol on Wednesday as Ellwood City defeated Quaker Valley 5-3 at Jack Critchfield Park on the campus of Slippery Rock University. Ryan Widmaier sparked the four run rally with a two-run double to help the Wolverines pull ahead. Sara Schwarz drove in five runs to lead Ellwood City to a 10-8 road victory over New Castle on Tuesday. Ellwood City (5-0 Overall) built a seven run lead in the fifth inning and then held off a comeback attempt by the Red Hurricanes. Ellwood City couldn’t keep up with defending WPIAL and PIAA Champion Riverside and fell 17-2 on Monday afternoon and Sanders Field. Riverside Swimming Wraps Up Its Appearance In PIAA State Championships

The Riverside Swimming team competed in the PIAA State Championships this past weekend at Bucknell University. “My assistant, David Peffer, and I are beyond proud of how our boys did this past weekend,” said head coach Alaina Marshall. “The bar at the competition level continues to be raised every year and our small team remains competitive amongst the best of them.” On Saturday, senior Joseph Roth broke his own 100-Yard Backstroke state record at finals with a time of 48.34, but was just out-touched at the finish by Luke Lamb of North Catholic. Mohawk Eliminates Ellwood City In PIAA Class 3A Playoffs

Mohawk rallied from a second half deficit Wednesday, knocking off Ellwood City for the third time this season – this time eliminating the Wolverines in the second round of the PIAA Class 3A Playoffs.
