Ellwood Area Family Center Hosting Summer Basketball Clinic Next Week

The Ellwood Area Family Center will be hosting a youth basketball clinic for Ages 8-11 beginning next Monday. The basketball sessions will be held at the Ellwood Area Family Center on the North Side of Ellwood City on Monday evenings beginning on Monday, August 10th. The clinic will run four five consecutive days from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Coach Bob Rak will be leading the clinic. The cost for the program is $25.00 per applicant and players are asked to bring their own ball. Due to the availability of time slots and facility size, there will be a cut-off…

Boardman Defeats Ellwood City 1-0 To Win 75th Ellwood City Little League Tournament

Boardman, Ohio defeated Ellwood City, 1-0, to win the 75th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field on Wednesday night. Kyler Diaz smacked a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning and the one run proved to be the difference. Boardman, district runner-up to Ohio Little League World Series runner-up Canfield, becomes the first Ohio team to win the tournament.  The Ellwood City Little League Tournament, the second oldest Little League tournament in the nation next to the Little League World Series, has now been won by teams from six different counties. Ellwood City defeated Neshannock, 4-1, on Monday night at Freidhoff Field to reach the finals of the 75th Ellwood City Little League Tournament. Ellwood City with a 3-1 record will face off against undefeated Boardman with a 3-0 record. In their first matchup, Boardman edged Ellwood City, 2-1, in an epic nine-inning battle on Sunday night. Boardman Edges Ellwood City 2-1 To Reach Championship Game Of 75th Little League Tournament

Boardman, OH edged Ellwood City, 2-1, in a classic game in the 75th Ellwood City Little League Tournament on Sunday night at Freidhoff Field. Kyler Diaz smacked a single to centerfield scoring Rocco Skovira in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Boardman the win. The victory by Boardman in the winner’s bracket final reserves their place in the championship game on Wednesday night. Ellwood City Downs Shenango In Opener of 75th Little League Tournament

Ellwood City downed Shenango, 5-0, in the opening game of the 75th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field Thursday night. Gage Pflugh and Jace Vandevort combined on a no-hitter and Asher Fabich smacked a two-run homer and double to lead Ellwood City. After two scoreless innings, Ellwood City scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning with a two-out rally. The 75th Ellwood City Little League Tournament Begins Thursday

The 75th Ellwood City Little League Tournament will begin Thursday with a doubleheader at Freidhoff Field. In the opening game, host Ellwood City will meet Shenango at 6:00 and in the nightcap Boardman, Ohio will meet Butler at 8;00 PM. The tournament is the second oldest Little League tournament in the nation next to the Little League World Series which hold its’ 79th tournament in August. The Ellwood City baseball team was among 13 teams recognized before the Pittsburgh Pirates game Tuesday night at PNC Park. All champions from the 2026 Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) were recognized on the field and on the jumbotron for their accomplishments. The Class 3A champion Wolverines picked a great game to attend as they saw reigning Cy Young winner Paul Skenes on the mound and Ryan O’Hearn set a Pirates franchise record with 10 RBIs in the Pirates 12-4 victory over Atlanta. Covert Ends BC3 Golf Career With Low Score At Nationals

Mitchell Covert shot a four-round 335 at Chautauqua Golf Club’s Lake Course in Chautauqua, N.Y. last Friday. Covert and Taylor Voloch ended their careers as Butler County Community College golfers by finishing the 2026 National Junior College Athletic Association Division III championship tournaments with scores lower than they posted in 2025. Covert shot a 474 in 2025. Voloch had a 441 in 2026 after a 474 in 2025. Covert Fires Third-Round 78 to Lead BC3 Golfers At Nationals

Lincoln High School graduate Mitchell Covert on Thursday fired a third-round 6-over 78 to lead three Butler County Community College golfers who shot their lowest scores of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III championship tournaments in Chautauqua, N.Y.   Covert cut nine strokes off his second-round 87 with three birdies and by parring seven holes at Chautauqua Golf Club’s Lake Course.   Taylor Voloch followed 114s with a third-round 108 and BC3 women’s teammate Leah McClellan cut 10 strokes off her score Wednesday with a 110.   Covert’s and Voloch’s scores Thursday were their lowest through seven rounds…
