Boardman Edges Ellwood City 2-1 To Reach Championship Game Of 75th Little League Tournament

Boardman, OH edged Ellwood City, 2-1, in a classic game in the 75th Ellwood City Little League Tournament on Sunday night at Freidhoff Field. Kyler Diaz smacked a single to centerfield scoring Rocco Skovira in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Boardman the win. The victory by Boardman in the winner’s bracket final reserves their place in the championship game on Wednesday night. Ellwood City downed Shenango, 5-0, in the opening game of the 75th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field Thursday night. Gage Pflugh and Jace Vandevort combined on a no-hitter and Asher Fabich smacked a two-run homer and double to lead Ellwood City. After two scoreless innings, Ellwood City scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning with a two-out rally. The 75th Ellwood City Little League Tournament Begins Thursday

The 75th Ellwood City Little League Tournament will begin Thursday with a doubleheader at Freidhoff Field. In the opening game, host Ellwood City will meet Shenango at 6:00 and in the nightcap Boardman, Ohio will meet Butler at 8;00 PM. The tournament is the second oldest Little League tournament in the nation next to the Little League World Series which hold its’ 79th tournament in August. The Ellwood City baseball team was among 13 teams recognized before the Pittsburgh Pirates game Tuesday night at PNC Park. All champions from the 2026 Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) were recognized on the field and on the jumbotron for their accomplishments. Mitchell Covert shot a four-round 335 at Chautauqua Golf Club’s Lake Course in Chautauqua, N.Y. last Friday. Covert and Taylor Voloch ended their careers as Butler County Community College golfers by finishing the 2026 National Junior College Athletic Association Division III championship tournaments with scores lower than they posted in 2025. Covert shot a 474 in 2025. Voloch had a 441 in 2026 after a 474 in 2025. Ellwood City Tennis will be conducting a tennis clinic for any boy or girl interested in learning the basics of tennis. The tennis clinic will be held on July 6th, 7th and 8th, 2026 at the Ewing Park Courts from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Any child ages 5-12 is eligible to sign up and participate.
