A four run fourth inning proved pivitol on Wednesday as Ellwood City defeated Quaker Valley 5-3 at Jack Critchfield Park on the campus of Slippery Rock University.
Ryan Widmaier sparked the four run rally with a two-run double to help the Wolverines pull ahead.
Ellwood City was able to get on the board and open up the scoring in the second inning when Widmaier collected and RBI ground out.
A single by Todd Kagle gave Quaker Valley a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning before Ellwood City rallied.
In the fourth, Widmaier doubled, scoring two runs, and Nate Kennedy and Isaiah Lutz each collected run scoring singles in the frame.

Will Nardone earned the win for Ellwood City. The starter allowed six hits and three runs over six innings, striking out five and walking two.
Kagle took the loss for Quaker Valley, surrendering five runs on four hits in four innings of work.
Widmaier led the offense with two hits and two RBIs from the eight-spot in the line-up. Owen Andrews tossed a clean inning of relief, striking out three batters.
The Wolverines will again face Quaker Valley on Thursday to wrap up the mini two-game series, traveling to Quaker Valley for a 4:15 p.m. match-up.
