Mohawk Eliminates Ellwood City In PIAA Class 3A Playoffs

Mohawk rallied from a second half deficit Wednesday, knocking off Ellwood City for the third time this season – this time eliminating the Wolverines in the second round of the PIAA Class 3A Playoffs.

The Warrior used 28 points from sophomore Bobby Fadden as Mohawk collected a 55-50 victory.

Ellwood City senior Joseph Roth finished with a game-high 29 points.

After a low scoring first half that saw the Wolverines lead 20-15, the teams combined for 42 points in third quarter alone. The Wolverines led by as many as eight points in the third quarter but Mohawk inched back to trail by only a point entering the final quarter.

Mohawk scored 12 of its 17 points in the final frame from the free throw line to help secure its victory. Fadden scored 19 points in the second half and finished 8-12 from the free throw line in the contest.

Roth matched Fadden, scoring 19 of his points in the second half and finished with 17 rebounds in the game. Roth finishes his career with 2,109 points and 1,198 rebounds. The 6’5″ Roth will compete in the PIAA Class 2A swimming championships Friday and Saturday at Bucknell University.

Senior Jay Wrona added nine points for Mohawk. Outside of Fadden and Roth, the only other player to score in double-digits in the game was Ellwood City’s Colten Crizer, who finished with 10 points.
