Schwarz Drives In 5 Runs, Wolverines Remain Unbeaten

Sara Schwarz drove in five runs to lead Ellwood City to a 10-8 road victory over New Castle on Tuesday.

Ellwood City (5-0 Overall) built a seven run lead in the fifth inning and then held off a comeback attempt by the Red Hurricanes.

New Castle go on the board in the first inning after Olivia Hood walked and was brought home by way of a RBI ground out by Aycealea Rose. A fielder’s choice by Gabby Mangieri extended the host Hurricanes lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the second inning.

Ellwood City captured the lead in the top of the third inning when Schwarz collected an RBI single and Amber McQuistion rocked a two-run homer to left field to put the Wolverines ahead 4-3.

Schwarz helped the Wolverines stretch out its advantage with a two-run double in the fourth inning and a two-run double in the fifth inning. Elwood City led 10-3 after five innings.

Amber McQuistion earned the win for Ellwood City, allowing 10 hits and six earned runs over seven inning. She struck out five and walked two.

Ellwood City ammased 13 hits in the game with Keira Rozanski adding three hits (two 2Bs) and three runs for the Wolverines. Schwarz finished with three doubles as part of her four-hit, five RBI performance at the dish. Eight Wolverine starters collected hits in the victory.

Ellwood City will return home for its next scheduled game versus Hopewell on Friday.
