PHOTOS: Panthers Fall To Tigers On Senior Night

The Riverside Panthers boys basketball team was defeated by Beaver Falls 68-39 Tuesday night.  Senior basketball players and cheerleaders were recognized as part of senior night festivities prior to the tip-off. Junior Ben Hughes finished with 11 points for the Panthers who could not overcome a 20-point first quarter outburst by the visiting Tigers. Jalen Vaughn (22 points) and Gage McKelvey (21 points) led the offensive output for Beaver Falls (9-11 overall). PHOTOS: Seniors Shine In Section Victory Over Mohawk

The inside-outside duo of seniors Natalia Greco and Isabella Roth combined for 29 points to lead the Lady Wolverines to 51-39 senior night victory over Mohawk Monday night. Roth collected four 3-pointers en route to her team high of 17 points while Greco battled inside earning 16 free throw attempts (10 made FT) on her way to 12 points.  The duo scored eight of the team’s 12 points in the final frame help close out the victory which marked a third consecutive victory for Ellwood City. Two Schools, One City, One Fundraising Cause

In light of our community’s tragic loss, the two rival schools have decided to come together and show support for the grieving family and friends of the late Kaitlyn “Kait” Francis. Showing their support, four students have stepped up and took on the task of making t-shirts to sell to students in a fundraising effort for the Francis family. Wolverines Emerge Victorious Against New Brighton

After a back and forth first half and much of a stalemate in the third quarter, the Ellwood City boys basketball team used a decisive fourth quarter to emerge victorious against New Brighton 55-46 on Tuesday. Ryan Gibbons scored a game-high, and season-high, 16 points (7-12 shooting, two 3-pointers) to lead the Wolverines. Three local wrestlers placed at the 6th Annual Mercer Invitational VFW Wrestling Tournament on Saturday. ECABF Youth Baseball Registraton

It’s that time of year again – the Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Registration (ECABF) is looking for players for the upcoming season.  Registration is currently ongoing and will be open until March 8, 2019 for the spring baseball season. The 2019 ECABF Spring Baseball campaign will be the 69th season of youth baseball in Ellwood City. Wrestling Team Competes In South Side Duals Tournament

The Ellwood City wrestling team was one of 14 teams that competed in the South Side Beaver Duals Tournament this past Saturday. The team had some individual success but were hampered by no contest forfeits as a team leaving the team winless in the tournament. The Wolverines fell to Cambridge Springs (58-9), Blackhawk (36-24), Lakeview (23-21), Penn Cambria (60-21), and West Greene (34-22). The Riverside Panthers stifled the Ellwood City Wolverines offense on its way to a 57-33 rivalry victory at home Tuesday night. Ben Hughes, Kevin Kolesar, and Nathan Sciarro led the Panthers offense, while the Riverside defense held Ellwood City to a single field goal in the second quarter, 14 points in the first half, and an overall 23% shooting performance. Wolverine Senior Signs With Seton Hill

Congratulations are in order for Ellwood City senior Natalia Greco. Greco is the second Ellwood City Softball senior to commit to further not only her education, but her softball career at a higher level. On Tuesday, Greco signed to attend Seton Hill following her sister, Skyla Greco, who signed in 2018. Much like Ariana Garroway, there is a long and hard work filled varsity softball career following her all the way to Seton Hill college. The Lady Wolverines claimed a 42-31 rivalry victory over Riverside on their home court Monday night. Balanced scoring a third quarter spurt helped the Wolverines pull away in the tightly contested game. Ellwood City held Riverside to a single field goal in a 3rd quarter that stretched what was a five-point halftime lead out to an 11-point cushion.
