PHOTOS: EC 2020 Homecoming Court

The 64th annual Lincoln High School Homecoming football game will be played this Friday at 7:00 p.m. when the Wolverines will host the Beaver Falls Tigers. This year, Homecoming festivities will look a little different due to Covid-19. A Homecoming King will be crowned at a ceremony to take place at Helling Stadium at 4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon. People can tune in through the Ellwood City Cheerleaders Facebook, as the cheerleaders will be live streaming the ceremony and crowning. ECASD Board Votes to Allow 1/4 Capacity at District Events

The Ellwood City School Area School District’s Board of Directors voted to allow spectators at events at ¼ capacity, but those in attendance will be required to wear masks, to social distance, and to sign a waiver excusing the district from liability. In a 6-1 vote the board decided that Ellwood City sports will now be played with the support of the community. Director Gary Rozanski was the lone No vote, and Directors Kathy McCommons and Norman Boots were not in attendance during the vote. GOLF ROUND-UP: EC Boys Victorious, Girls Narrowly Defeated

The Ellwood City boys golf team continued its strong play with another victory this week, defeating Mohawk 223-241 at Delmar Golf Course.  The girls golf team fell victim to Elizabeth Forward on Tuesday and, in an even closer match, were defeated by Central Valley in a playoff on Thursday. Ellwood City Girls Volleyball Team Collects Two Victories

The Ellwood City Girls Volleyball team collected two victories this week with a victory over Laurel on Monday and a second, resounding victory over New Brighton on Tuesday. On Monday, the girls team survived a second set scare from the Spartans, but were able to dispatch Laurel in straight sets, 25-14, 27-25, and 25-20. On Tuesday, the girls team easily dispatched New Brighton in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15, and 25-8 at Lincoln High School.  Junior varsity also collected straight set victories over the Lions, 25-10 and 25-11. In a strong effort by all local high school clubs, the Ellwood City girls tennis, boys golf, and girls volleyball teams were all victorious on Monday in their respective matches. For the girls tennis squad, Molly and Maddy McCommons collected straight set victories in singles play to lead the victors over Neshannock at Ewing Park Tennis Courts. ECASD Board of Directors Push for Spectator Attendance at Games

There’s no doubt the Ellwood City Area School Board of Directors support student participation in Fall sports, but they also made it clear that they want spectators in the stands, on the sidelines, and cheering on the athletes. At Thursday’s meeting, Director Erica Gray insisted the board find a way to make that happen. Ellwood City boys golf team defeated Neshannock 220-225 on Tuesday at Delmar Golf Course while the Ellwood City girls tennis team defeated Ambridge at the Ewing Park tennis courts. High school sports are back in full swing. Football, soccer, and tennis are among the popular sports for students at Riverside. Lady Wolverines Golf Team Collects Tri-Match Victory

Molly McCommons fired a team low round of 45 to lead the Lady Wolverines golf team to tri-match victory over Ambridge and Seton LaSalle at Del Mar Golf Course on Wednesday afternoon. The girls golf team post a team round of 200 besting Ambridge (238) and Seton LaSalle (270).
