Ellwood City Girls Volleyball Team Collects Two Victories

The Ellwood City Girls Volleyball team collected two victories this week with a victory over Laurel on Monday and a second, resounding victory over New Brighton on Tuesday. On Monday, the girls team survived a second set scare from the Spartans, but were able to dispatch Laurel in straight sets, 25-14, 27-25, and 25-20. On Tuesday, the girls team easily dispatched New Brighton in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15, and 25-8 at Lincoln High School.  Junior varsity also collected straight set victories over the Lions, 25-10 and 25-11. SPORTS: EC Tennis, Golf & Volleyball Teams All Victorious

In a strong effort by all local high school clubs, the Ellwood City girls tennis, boys golf, and girls volleyball teams were all victorious on Monday in their respective matches. For the girls tennis squad, Molly and Maddy McCommons collected straight set victories in singles play to lead the victors over Neshannock at Ewing Park Tennis Courts. Nichole Bartolomeo rallied back from dropping her first set to gain her singles victory (6-7, 7-6, 6-0).  Alex Johnston & Rylea Heitzenrater collected a double victory (6-3, 6-4).  After the 4-1 match victory, the girls tennis team record is now 2-1 overall and…

ECASD Board of Directors Push for Spectator Attendance at Games

There’s no doubt the Ellwood City Area School Board of Directors support student participation in Fall sports, but they also made it clear that they want spectators in the stands, on the sidelines, and cheering on the athletes. At Thursday’s meeting, Director Erica Gray insisted the board find a way to make that happen. Although Superintendent Wes Shipley agrees with the board, he said the board’s and the district’s options are limited and opening the “gates” to events could open a flood gate of liability for the district. SPORTS: Ellwood City Boys Golf, Girls Tennis Both Victorious

Ellwood City boys golf team defeated Neshannock 220-225 on Tuesday at Delmar Golf Course while the Ellwood City girls tennis team defeated Ambridge at the Ewing Park tennis courts. The season opening victory for the girls tennis team was powered by straight set victories in all five matches.  Molly and Maddy McCommons both collected 6-0, 6-0 straight set victories in singles along with Nichole Bartolomeo who won 6-1, 6-1 in singles play.  In doubles, Cassidy Navolio and Alex Johnston collected a 6-4, 6-1 victory while Anna Williams and Rylea Heitzenrater scored a 6-0, 6-0 victory for Ellwood City. Riverside Fall Sport Senior Q&A

High school sports are back in full swing. Football, soccer, and tennis are among the popular sports for students at Riverside. Lady Wolverines Golf Team Collects Tri-Match Victory

Molly McCommons fired a team low round of 45 to lead the Lady Wolverines golf team to tri-match victory over Ambridge and Seton LaSalle at Del Mar Golf Course on Wednesday afternoon. The girls golf team post a team round of 200 besting Ambridge (238) and Seton LaSalle (270). Wolverine golfers Maddy McCommons (51), Emily Borroni (49) and Kyla Servick (55) also posted solid rounds in victory. Dinah Bailey from Ambridge carded a team low round of 45 for the Bridgers. Golf Recap: EC Boys Defeat Rival Riverside, EC Girls Fall to Seneca Valley

The Ellwood City boys golfers defeated rival Riverside 203-249 on Tuesday at Del Mar Golf Course with Milo Sesti recording a 1-under par round of 35 for the victors. For the boys, Dan Ditri (41), Geoffrey Boker (42), Joey Hudson (43), and Daniel Rogers (43) joined Sesti on the scorecard.  Logan Greer finished with a team low round of 37 for Riverside in defeat.
