Venezie Sporting Goods & Apparel Announces 2021 Scholarships

Venezie Sporting Goods & Apparel has announced its annual scholarship opportunity for area students this year.  The scholarship, now in its third year, will be available to four local school districts. “We love our community and we love our students, and it is time we continue to recognize them for all their hard work inside and outside of the classroom,” said Vice President of Operations, Vanessa Venezie. Ellwood City Connects On 11 3-Pointers, Bounces Rival Riverside

Ellwood City was red hot from deep on Friday night, connecting on 11 3-pointers en route to its easy 71-33 victory over rival Riverside at Lincoln High School. The Wolverines scorched the nets for five first quarter three pointers with junior Steve Antuono nailing three triples as part of the Wolverine’s 24-9 first quarter advantage. Roth Scores 31, Ellwood City Defeats Rochester

Freshman Joseph Roth scored 31 points and Ellwood City used an impressive fourth quarter to pull away for a 61-50 non-section victory over Rochester Tuesday night. Ellwood City outscored the visiting Rams 19-3 in the fourth quarter after trailing by five points entering the final frame. Roth enjoyed an steady performance throughout the game, scoring six points in each of the first two quarters, eight points in the third quarter, and tallied 11 points in the final frame.  For Roth, it is his third consecutive 20+ point scoring effort for Ellwood City. Wolverine Wrestling Collects One Win In Laurel Duals Tournament

The Ellwood City Wolverines wrestling team finished 1-4 in the 2021 Laurel Duals wrestling tournament over the weekend at Laurel High School. The Wolverines collected its 39-24 victory over New Castle on Saturday in the opening round of the tournament. Ben Gallenz (106 lb, EC) pinned Kortel Marshal at 0:24 and Rodney Grymes (189 lb, EC) collected a decision victory 11-7 over Noah Shields to lead the Wolverines.  126 – Dom Dausman, 132 – Elijah Shelby, 152 – Ryan Nazari, 160 – Chris Quintanella, and 285 – Donovan Stiffler all collected forfeit victories for Ellwood City. Lady Wolverines Surge In Second Quarter, Race Past Riverside

The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines used a 21-1 second quarter surge to race past the visiting Riverside Panthers 45-11 Monday Night at Lincoln High School. After exchanging scores early in the first quarter, Ellwood City posted their impressive run in the second quarter taking an 8-6 advantage to a comfortable 29-7 halftime lead.  Great defense translated to multiple fast break points and layups for the Lady Wolverines. Wolverines Cruise To Road Victory Over Mohawk

Ellwood City jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 71-44 section victory on the road Tuesday night over Mohawk. Alexander Roth and Steve Antuono each scored seven first quarter points for the Wolverines who jumped out to a commanding 27-6 lead. The Wolverines showcased a balanced team and individual scoring attack. BC3 Cancels Seasons Of 3 Indoor Intercollegiate Sports

(Butler, PA) The seasons of Butler County Community College’s three indoor intercollegiate athletic programs postponed last fall to this winter have been canceled with continued regard to COVID-19 and in observance of out-of-state travel orders announced by the state Department of Health on Nov. 17. The college announced Monday its cancellation of its men’s and women’s basketball seasons, and of its volleyball season for the 2020-2021 academic year. BC3 will determine later whether the seasons of its intercollegiate athletic programs in baseball, golf and softball will be held.
