Panthers, Wolverines Baseball Teams Both Victorious

Both the Riverside Panthers and Ellwood City Wolverines collected victories Tuesday afternoon.

Wolverines Claim Lead In Extra Inning To Defeat New Brighton

Ellwood City snatched the lead late in the game in an 11-4 victory over New Brighton on Tuesday. The game was tied at four after seven innings before the Wolverines exploded for seven runs in the eighth inning.

The offensive firepower by Ellwood City was led by Sammy DiCaprio, James Meehan, Nico DeCaria, Bucky Biskup, and Ryan Gibbons, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Ryan Hampton started for Ellwood City lasting six innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out two and walking zero. Gibbons threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen to earn the victory.

Ellwood City (1-4 overall) tallied 11 hits on the day. DiCaprio, Meehan, and Biskup all had multiple hits for the Wolverines. Meehan and DiCaprio each managed three hits to lead the offense.

New Brighton had seven hits in the game. Aaron Elliot and Eddie Yorns each managed multiple hits for New Brighton.

Bobby Budacki took the loss for New Brighton. The pitcher lasted one-third of an inning, allowing three hits and three runs while walking one. Elliot started the game for New Brighton. The hurler lasted seven innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out six.

Ellwood City will next host the Lions on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Riverside Baseball Defeats Neshannock, 4-1

The Panthers defeated Neshannock 4-1 on Tuesday at Riverside, using a three run fourth inning to race out to an early lead over the defending section champ Lancers.

Ron Harper got the win for the Panthers. Harper allowed three hits and one un-earned run over six and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking zero. Madden Boehm threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Boehm recorded the last out to earn the save for Riverside (3-1 overall).  Only a 100 pitch limit prevented Harper from securing a complete game.

Seth Kristophel, Boehm, Aaron Falk, Evan Burry, and Curtis Johnston each collected one hit to lead the Panthers offense.

Gavin Wooley took the loss for Neshannock. The hurler allowed three hits and two runs over three and a third innings, striking out three. Colten Shaffer went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Neshannock in hits.

Riverside will play the Lancers again on Wednesday, this time at Neshannock with a 4:00 p.m. first pitch.
