PHOTOS: EC Softball Drops Section Finale To South Park, Turns Attention To WPIAL Playoffs

Last week, the Wolverines traveled to South Park and cruised to a 12-3 victory, but on Wednesday evening, the Eagles turned the tables and cruised to a 9-2 win on Ellwood City Senior Night. Ellwood City seniors Maria Ioanilli and Makinley Magill were recognized prior to the game as part of the Senior Night festivities. 4-PEAT! Riverside Boys Track Takes Home WPIAL Championship

The Panthers set WPIAL history Wednesday becoming the first Class 2A track team to win four consecutive titles. The championship also makes Riverside the only Class 2A track team to win 7 WPIAL Championships. Riverside defeated Greensburg Central Catholic (84-64), South Park (95-55) and Shenango (77-73) to capture its 2021 championship. Two Ellwood City teams collected victories Tuesday afternoon with the Ellwood City Softball team defeating Beaver Falls 10-0 and the Wolverine Baseball team defeating Mohawk 7-1. Panthers Track & Field Team Looking For WPIAL 4-Peat

The Riverside boys track & field team have chance to win a fourth straight team track championship on Wednesday at the WPIAL Track Championships at Peters Township. The Riverside Youth Football has announced signups fore 2021 season. Signups have already began but there is still plenty of time to sign your child up to play. Both area softball teams were victorious in action on Thursday with Ellwood City blasting South Park early on its way to a 12-3 victory while the Riverside Panthers clinched the program’s first winning season since 2014 by defeating Mohawk 9-8 at home on Thursday.  The Riverside baseball team overcame an early deficit to also win Thursday, defeating Laurel 10-9 at home. Two Lincoln High School Students Sign Letters of Intent

In the past week, two Lincoln High School seniors have signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic careers in college. Ryan Gibbons signed his letter on April 29th. He will be attending Westminster University where he will major in Engineering and will continue his baseball career. He was joined by his parents Bob and Kim Gibbons. Makinley Magill signed her letter of intent on May 3rd. She will be attending Muskingum University where she continue her softball career. She has not decided on a major just yet. Ellwood City Softball Falls to Avonworth

Two weeks ago, the Wolverines were able to erase a six run deficit to defeat Avonworth, but on Saturday there would be no comeback as the Antelopes scored 14 consecutive runs to turn a 2-2 tie into a 16-4 rout. The Ellwood City Wolverines defeated Quaker Valley 5-1 on Saturday. Prior to the contest, the Ellwood City seniors were recognized with their parents as part of the Senior Day game. After a relatively quiet first five innings, Ellwood City scored four runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. The offensive onslaught by the Wolverines was led by James Meehan (2-3, 2 runs, 1 2B, 1 RBI), Alexander Roth, Noah Magill, and RJ Murray, who each had RBIs in the pivotal inning. ELLWOOD CITY SOFTBALL DEFEATS QUAKER VALLEY The Lincoln High School softball team improved their record to 9-2 on the season as they defeated Quaker Valley 18-2 Wednesday afternoon in Sewickley. The Wolverines posted 18 runs with only seven hits on the board. Aliya Garroway powered the offense with a 3-RBI afternoon (2-3, 1 3B) for the Wolverines.  Maria Ioanilli tripled and scored three times while Katelyn Wehman walked twice and also scored three times for Ellwood City.
