Belzyck and Kralic Shine for Riverside in Beaver County Championships

The Beaver County Championships were held this past Saturday at Riverside High School and teams from all over Beaver County came to compete at one of the first big invitational of the 2021 season. Seniors Colby Belzyck and Graham Kralic from Riverside High School each took first place in more than one event to propel the Panthers to another championship. The Panthers won the invitational in 2019, but last years meet was cancelled due to COVID-19. Ellwood City Softball Earns Big Comeback With Walkoff Victory

The Ellwood City softball team displayed a tremendous amount of character and grit with a great walk off win over Avonworth Wednesday afternoon at Stiefel Park. The team overcame two different deficits by scoring seven runs over the final two innings to earn the 7-6 victory. Hard hitting left fielder Mollie Street ended things in the bottom of the seventh with a one out two strike sacrifice fly to score Aliya Garroway from third base and the celebration began. In a rather successful afternoon for the local baseball and softball teams, Ellwood City baseball and softball teams both earned victories while the Riverside baseball team defeated Aliquippa handily. Wolverines Grab Lead In Fifth Inning For Victory Over Freedom Area Ellwood City bounced back from a four run deficit and stole the lead late, defeating Freedom 8-4 on the road Tuesday. Ellwood City Softball Splits With Keystone Oaks & Union Over The Weekend

The Lincoln High School softball team took advantage of terrific weekend weather and played two games. They lost to Keystone Oaks on Friday and bounced back with a win against Union on Saturday. Proclamation Presented To WPIAL Champion Boys Basketball Team

Mayor Anthony J. Court presented a proclamation to the Ellwood City Wolverines basketball team this week. The team captured the school’s first WPIAL Championship in the school’s history in March with its victory over South Allegheny. Ellwood City Wolverines Takes 5-3 Victory Over New Brighton Ellwood City completed a back-to-back sweep over New Brighton, defeated the Lions on Wednesday, 5-3 New Brighton took an early lead in the second inning when Seth Tanaka singled on a 3-2 count, scoring a run to push the visiting Lions lead to 2-1 but Ellwood was able to rebound. Both the Riverside Panthers and Ellwood City Wolverines collected victories Tuesday afternoon. Wolverines Claim Lead In Extra Inning To Defeat New Brighton Ellwood City snatched the lead late in the game in an 11-4 victory over New Brighton on Tuesday. The game was tied at four after seven innings before the Wolverines exploded for seven runs in the eighth inning. In a rivalry game that saw two wild rallies and 30 combined hits, the Riverside Panthers responded last in its 15-13 road victory over Ellwood City on Saturday.
