GOING, GOING, GONE: Biondi Wins Ellwood City Little League Tournament Home Run Derby

Ellwood City’s Gino Biondi won the 21st Ellwood City Little League Tournament Home Run Derby.

Biondi belted nine home runs to win the competition.

Liam Connelly of West View/Ross Township and Tim McElhaney tied for second place with six home runs. Cam Mills of Ellwood City and Kaden Troung of West View/Ross Township smacked five home runs. The competition included 32 contestants from the eight teams in the tournament.

CENTRAL VALLEY DEFEATS LAUREL TO WIN ELLWOOD CITY LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP

Central Valley defeated Laurel, 13-6, to win the 71st Ellwood City Little League Tournament Championship on Monday night at Freidhoff Field.

Antonio Perri led Central Valley  on the mound and at the plate.  Perri allowed just one run over three innings to get the victory on the mound and had three hits with four RBI at the plate.

Central Valley becomes the 28th different baseball association to win the 71-year old tournament. Central Valley recorded a 5-1 record in the tournament. Laurel finished with a 3-2 slate. Shenango finished in third place and Shaler finished in fourth place.

Ellwood City defeated Shaler 5-4 last Tuesday to open up its championship aspirations, but later fell to Laurel and Shenango to be eliminated from the tournament.  Ellwood City last won the tournament in 2020, defending its 2019 championship.

The Lawrence County Umpires Association handled the umpiring for the 17-game tournament. The tournament was sponsored by McElwain Motors.
