Laurel defeated Ellwood City, 10-0, in the nightcap Thursday in the 71st Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field.
Braydon Faulkner rapped three singles with five RBI and was the winning pitcher with three hitless innings.
Laurel opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Jack Brest led off with a double and Memphis McDonaugh followed with a single. Faulkner singled scoring Brest to give Laurel a 1-0 lead. Jack Jones followed with a sacrifice fly scoring McDonough to up the lead to 2-0. A ground out scored Faulkner to increase the Laurel lead to 3-0. After a scoreless second inning, Laurel added three more runs in the third inning. McDonough reached on an error and scored on an RBI-single by Faulkner to give Laurel a 4-0 lead. Jones walked and stole second base. Tyler Dorr reached on an error scoring Faulkner and Jones to increase Laurel’s lead to 6-0. Laurel added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ryan Weisinstein was hit by a pitch and Edward Disman and Santino Geramita walked to load the bases. After a force out, McDonough was hit by a pitch to force in Disman to make the score 7-0. Faulkner followed with a two-run single to increase the lead to 9-0. Jones singled to score another run to make the score 10-0 and the 10-run rule was invoked.
Faulkner led Laurel at the plate with three singles and five RBI. Jones singled and walked and drove in a run and McDonough singled and drew a walk. Brest smacked a double and Weisenstein singled and was hit by a pitch. Faulkner was the winning pitcher throwing three scoreless innings and fanning eight batters. Ryan Courson threw a scoreless inning without allowing a hit to complete the no-hitter.
Ellwood City next will play Saturday against the winner of a Shenango/West View match-up schedule for Friday evening.
