“Friends Of The Park” Help Fix Up Wampum Community Park

Wampum Park is a local park that over the years had began to get run down and was in need of repairs and updates and when Karen Goebel saw this, she knew someone needed to do something. So she did it. Goebel. a local of the area, talked with the borough in the fall of 2020 and asked if there was anything they could do to help. After a rain cancellation caused Lincoln High School to move their graduation day, the Class of 2021 finally got to accept their diplomas. The Class of 2021, along with friends and family, all gathered together on Monday at Helling Stadium to see the students receive their diplomas. Even though the rain was still there on the big day, that didn’t stop the graduates from walking across the stage and getting the diplomas that they all worked so hard for. A walk-off single propelled Punxatawney to a 4-3 ten-inning victory over WPIAL runner-up Ellwood City in the opening round of the PIAA Class 3A softball playoffs Monday afternoon at Heindl Field in DuBois. After tying the game with two outs in the seventh frame, Kaylee Guidice drove in the game-winning run with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th for the Lady Chucks. BURGLARY: On April 30, at approximately 12:50 p.m., New Castle Patrol Unit responded to a report of a burglary at a storage unit on Wampum Road in Wayne Township. Petrak Among Twelve Ohio State Swimmers Taking Part In Olympic Trials

Taylor Petrak is among 12 Ohio State University men’s and women’s swimmers that will be competing this weekend, June 4-7, in Omaha, Neb., during Wave I competition. The trials are being held at the CHI Health Center, in Omaha. Petrak, a 5’8″ Buckeye Senior, will compete in the 50-yard freestyle.  The Ellwood native is the daughter of Patti and Jay Petrak. The trials are being split into a Wave I and a Wave II trials this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to USA Swimming. Wolverines Fall In WPIAL Championship; Move On To PIAA

Top seeded Mt. Pleasant ripped ten doubles in its convincing 15-0 victory over Ellwood City in the Class-3A WPIAL Softball Championship Game on Wednesday at Cal U. The 11-seeded Wolverines were seeking a fourth WPIAL title but fell one game short in defeat after its victories over No. 6 Deer Lakes, No. 3 Waynesburg and No. 7 Southmoreland to gain entry in the championship game. UPDATES: June 3rd, 2:21 p.m. – According to the Lincoln High School guidance offices, the commencement ceremony schedule for Thursday evening has been cancelled & postponed until Monday, June 7, 2021. The Lincoln High School graduating Class of 2021 will receive their diplomas Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.  The commencement will take place at Helling Stadium in Ewing Park. Riverside To Start Summer Meal Program

The Riverside cafeteria staff will begin the summer meal program the week of June 14, 2021. Riverside will offer a 5-day package for pick-up every Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. The pick-up location is expected to be at the Middle School. However, the location may change to the elementary school due to construction projects throughout the district. Food service staff will pack bags on Mondays and distribute on Tuesdays. The package will consist of 5 lunch meals, 5 breakfast meals, and a 1/2 gallon of white milk. The summer meal service is free for all district children age 18 and under….
