POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

THEFT: New Castle Police are investigating theft incident on North Western Drive in Wayne Township. A 72-year-old Ellwood City man sent an unidentified individual money online over a period of 11-12 months. According to the report, the currency sent to the suspect via Bitcoin is valued at $300,000.00. Police are continuing to investigate. The Beaver Patrol Unit responded to an incident in Darlington Boro. A woman, age 74 was deceived by a male phone caller and gave him her personal bank account information. $2,000.00 was stolen from the woman’s account. Riverside Gearing Up For PIAA Track Championship

Coming off of a “4-PEAT” in the WPIAL Championship and competing this past week at Slippery Rock University, a select few Riverside athletes are getting ready for the State Championship beginning this Friday May 28th. The Ellwood City Area School Board of Directors has scheduled a Special Meeting of the Board on May 26, 2021 at 6:30 PM. Bench Donated By Lions Clubs to Honor Well Respected Township Employee

Riverside and Rochester/Beaver Lions Club recently donated a bench to honor Randy Syphrit, a very well-respected employee in North Sewickley Township. Pictured below is Jamie Wolf, a North Sewickley Township employee, seated on the bench that was donated in Randy Syphrit’s memory by the Riverside and Rochester/Beaver Lions clubs. “Syphrit was a well-respected, liked and long time employee in North Sewickley Township, he was also a member of the NSVFD for over 30 years.” said Chip Campbell, of Riverside Lions Club. Syphrit passed away in August of 2019 at the age of 52.

Ellwood City 6th grade students participated in their annual 6th grade Olympics this past Thursday May 20th at Helling Stadium in Ewing Park. The day started off with a parade of classes in the morning before the events began. The team names represented each of the students homerooms. The teams were as follows:  Agostinelli All Stars; Bing’s Bandits; Mrs.Cortez’s Charging Cheetahs; Morella’s Wolverines; Ott’s Bots ; The Rozanski Royals Morella’s Wolverines won the Tug Of War Championship.  


Next Ellwood City Yard Waste Pick-Up Is Week Of June 21

According to information made available the borough offices, the next scheduled yard waste pick-up for borough residents will be the week of June 21, 2021. The borough’s new contract with Valley Waste starts this summer. A full schedule will be provided in the near future. At an April Borough Council meeting, Borough Manager David Allen commented that the new contract expands yard waste pickup significantly. Per the Borough’s website regarding yard waste pickup procedures: Green borough yard waste bins are also available for residents to dispose of their simple yard waste. Ellwood City Football Announces Youth Camp

The Ellwood City Varsity Wolverines football team will be hosting a youth football camp this summer. The camp will take place June 7th-9th from 4-6 p.m. This will be a free camp and it is open to children in grade 3rd-6th. The varsity coaches along with the senior players, will be coaching and overseeing the camp. This will be a non-contact football skills camp. The participants will be given the opportunity to work on the fundamentals of each position on offense and defense. Each day will end with a game of flag football. Wampum To Host Community Yard Sale

The Wampum Area Business Association (WABA) has announced that they will be hosting a community yard sale in June. The event will be taking place all over town on June 5th starting a 9 a.m. Maps will be made available to show the locations on Friday June 4th and Saturday June 5th. The maps will be available at the Wampum Post Office and Wampum Stop & Shop.
