Riverside Set To Host Meet The Teacher This August

BACK TO SCHOOL! Riverside Elementary School will be hosting Meet The Teacher on Monday August 30th for children in grades 3-5. With the limited parking and space available, the times will be staggered. It is being respectfully requested that additional family members do not attend and that only the parents and child attend in the given time slot. Schedules will be made available on Skyward by August 16th. At 11:00 a.m. 3rd grade students will meet in the Middle School Gymnasium for a brief welcome by their new principal, Alicia Dwyer. PHOTOS: Franklin Township 8th Annual National Night Out

Franklin Township celebrated and held their 8th Annual National Night Out Event Tuesday evening under warm, sunny skies at the Franklin Plaza in Ellwood City. The event featured free activities for children, fire safety, CPR training, prize giveaways, and food vendors. The popular Penguins mascot Iceburgh also made his appearance bringing joy to all those in attendance. The National Night Out initiative began in 1984 in an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Carpenter’s Project Wraps Up Successful Week

Even with some few changes this year, the Carpenter’s Project did not disappoint families in the community who needed some help in their homes. “Even with less people this year, we were able to help out 14 families who needed help with safety issues in their homes,” said Steven Miller, Director of the Carpenter’s Project. “I’m very happy with success we had this year.” The Carpenter’s Project started 20 years ago when Chairperson Connie MacDonald noticed that people were getting cited for issues in their homes and didn’t have the means to fix them. Q&A: Ellwood Native Author Coming To Town For Meet And Greet

Ellwood City native, Cassandra Douglas, has now published two children’s books in her Ellwood City Tales series and will be in town on Saturday, August 14th at 9:00 a.m, for a meet and greet at the Farmer’s Market and will be signing books. Extra copies of each of the books will be sold at the event and will be available for signing. James “Sabu” DeCaria, 86

James “Sabu” DeCaria, 86, of Port Huron, Michigan, formerly of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, passed away on May 13, 2021, in Port Huron after an extended illness. Sabu was born March 21, 1935 in Ellwood City to the late Antonio and Rose Orrico DeCaria. He was a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1954 and served honorably in the United States Air Force and in 1963 moved to Port Huron where he lived until his passing. Route 288 Zelienople Road Improvements Begin Next Week in Franklin Township

In its official press release, PennDOT District 11 has announced the long-term closure of a section of Zelienople Road (Route 288) in Franklin Township, Beaver County, that will begin Monday morning, July 26 weather permitting. A section of Zelienople Road between Lake Road and Old Furnace Road will close to through traffic beginning at 7 a.m. Monday continuously through early November as work begins on the Route 288 realignment project. Shirley (Gills) Scott, 86, of Morristown, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 2, 2021 in Phoenix, AZ, surrounded by loving family. Shirley was born on October 28, 1934, to the late Howard and Nina (Abernathy) Gills in Ellwood City, PA.
