ROUND-UP: Spadafore Sets Course Record For CC, Golf & Volleyball Victorious

Ellwood City cross-country runner Anthony Spadafore set a new course record at Brush Creek Park on Tuesday as the Wolverines boys defeated both Neshannock and New Brighton, 24-32 and 21-34 respectively.

Spadafore finished in 1st place with a time of 18:29.

Other finishers for the CC team include 3rd place Joel Brooks 19:05 (3rd place), Nick Wise 19:46 (5th Place), Colten Crizer 19:53 (6th Place), and Bradley Custer 22:56 (15th place).

“Our kids stepped up today,” said head coach Mark Hall. “From Anthony to Joel, Colton, Nick and Bradley, they did everything they had to do to get out of there with a victory.”

The team is off to a 2-0 start to its season.  The team next travels for a meet on September 21 at @ Laurel / Freedom / Union

For the girls cross country team, Avelise Custer placed 8th with a time of 31:19 while Nadine Aquino finished with a time of 43:04.

GOLF DEFEATS UNION

The Ellwood City golf team defeated Union 223-263 on Monday afternoon to improve its record to 7-1 overall (6-1 section).  Zac Polojac fired a team-low round of 41 to pace the victors while Zion Buney (44), Dan Rogers (44), Mitch Cover (47), and Tyler Baker (47) rounded out the scoring.  Rocco Galmarini fired a round of 41 in defeat for the Scotties.

VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS NEW BRIGHTON

The Lady Wolverines volleyball team defeated New Brighton 3-1 on Tuesday. The win improved the girls’ early record to 2-1 (2-1) on the season.  The girls’ next host Freedom Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
