The Ellwood City baseball and softball teams both earned victories on Monday. The Lady Wolverines earned a resounding 10-0 victory over Beaver Falls as part of their Senior Night festivities. The boys baseball team will look for a mini sweep and to match the softball senior night victory when they host Mohawk on Tuesday at Sanders Field in Ewing Park.
Nardone, Wolverines Shutout Beaver Falls
Julia Nardone shut down Beaver Falls on Monday afternoon, throwing a complete game 4-hit shutout to lead the Wolverines to a 10-0 victory.
Ellwood City racked up 11 hits in the contest with Kyla Servick, Mollie Street, and Nardone all collecting multiple hits. Street (3 RBIs) and Servick (4 runs scored) each posted three hit efforts for the Wolverines.
Nardone was the winning pitcher in the contest, lasting six innings, allowing the aforementioned four hits, and zero runs while striking out five Tiger batters.
Ellwood City centerfielder Katelyn Wehman smacked a homerun in the second inning to power the offensive attack. The Wolverines posted a four-run fifth inning to help secure the mercy rule victory.
The Wolverines (10-2 Overall, 8-2 Section 3A-2) will next host Union Area on Wednesday with a 4:15 p.m. first pitch scheduled. The team then wraps up its regular season with two road games, first against Neshannock on Monday and Moniteau on Tuesday.
Wolverines Earn 7-1 Victory Over Mohawk
Ellwood City baseball nabbed the lead late in the game in a 7-1 victory over Mohawk Area on Monday.
The Wolverines secured the victory thanks to five runs in the sixth inning. Isaiah Lutz, Joseph Roth, Chase Wilson, Willie Nardone, and Sam Landis powered the big inning with RBIs.
After Mohawk struck first, Ellwood City tied things up at one in the fourth inning as Bucky Biskup swatted an RBI double to knot the score.
Nick Magnifico was credited with the victory for Ellwood City. The bulldog surrendered one run on four hits over seven innings, striking out one.
Ellwood City tallied ten hits on the afternoon. Roth, Lutz, and Biskup all collected multiple hits for the Wolverines. Roth went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Ellwood City Wolverines in hits. Ellwood City (7-7 Overall, 6-3 Section 3A-1), will conclude their mini home-and-home series versus Mohawk on Tuesday when they host the Warriors at 4:30 p.m.
