Bats Blister For Panthers Softball, Busby Shines On Mound For Wolverines

Bats Blistered as Riverside Panthers Defeats Beaver Falls, 14-9

Both pitching staffs had their hands full on Tuesday in a high-scoring affair where the Riverside Lady Panthers bested Beaver Falls, 14-9.

The Panthers (1-1 overall) opened up scoring with a six-run first inning and crept out to a 9-2 lead before the Tigers were able to respond.

Beaver Falls scored four runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught by Beaver Falls was led by Tillman, Lamp, Ohorodnyk, and Corradi, who each had RBIs in the inning.  Riverside was able to respond with five runs in the next inning which gave the Panthers some breathing room on their way to the victory.

Amelia Bailey earned the win for Riverside. She surrendered five runs on six hits over two and two-thirds innings. Taryn Schmidt threw four and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Riverside tallied 13 hits on the day. Bella Shrewsbury, Marissa Gazda, and Gabby Gretch all had multiple hits for the Panthers. Gazda and Shrewsbury each managed three hits to lead Riverside with Gazda collecting a double and triple on the afternoon.

Beaver Falls had ten hits in the game. Tillman, Benedict, and Gagot all managed multiple hits for Beaver Falls.  Haney took the loss for Beaver Falls. She allowed 13 hits and 14 runs over seven innings, striking out one.

Busby Shines on The Bump For Wolverines

Sean Busby tossed seven inning of three-hit baseball to lead the Wolverines to a 6-1 victory over New Brighton Tuesday afternoon.  The game was tied at one into the fifth inning before Ellwood City scored the game winning run on a ground out.  Despite the final score, there were only five combined hits between the two teams.

The Wolverines (1-3 overall) notched four more runs in a decisive sixth inning. Ellwood City’s offense in the inning came from their only two hits in the contest — a single by Noah Rinker and a double by Anthony Roth.

Busby led the Ellwood City Wolverines to victory on the pitcher’s mound. He surrendered one run on three hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking zero.  Busby helped his on cause at the plate, collecting an RBI and drawing two walks. The Wolverines drew 13 walks as a team.

Rinker and Roth each managed one hit to lead Ellwood City with Roth collecting two RBIs in the contest.

Ashton Fath took the loss for New Brighton. He surrendered five runs on two hits over four and a third innings, striking out two. Francona started the game for New Brighton. He surrendered one run on zero hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two.
