The Riverside baseball and softball made quick work of opponents on Wednesday, each earning mercy-rule victories. The Panthers baseball team took to the road and shut-out Beaver Falls 16-0 in four innings. Hunter Garvin smashed a three-run homerun as part of a six run offensive onslaught in the second inning. Ellwood City and Riverside softball seasons are underway. Each team will look to return to their respective WPIAL class playoffs. Williams Accepts Softball Scholarship With Fairmont State University

Last week, Riverside senior shortstop Mia Williams signed to continue her athletic career at Fairmont State University. Williams has started and lettered the past three years of varsity softball and has been named the Beaver County Times Athlete of the Week. As a junior, Williams doubled and collected three RBIs to help lead the Lady Panthers to the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Playoffs for the first since 2013. The Riverside Lady Panthers scored eight runs in the sixth inning on its way to a 12-1 victory over Hopewell on Wednesday. Senior Samantha Rosenberger swatted a solo home run at the plate and struck out 15 Freedom Bulldogs on the mound Wednesday as the Lady Panthers defeated Freedom 8-4. Both Ellwood City and Riverside softball teams will enter their 2023 regular season campaigns with sights set on returning to the WPIAL Playoffs, continuing streaks for both teams.
