Lady Panthers Defeat Hopewell Thanks To Sixth Inning Boost

The Riverside Lady Panthers scored eight runs in the sixth inning on its way to a 12-1 victory over Hopewell on Wednesday.

Prior to the game four Panther seniors – Madison Fryer, Sam Rosenberger, Braley Zappia, and Aliya Ottaviani – were recognized as part of the Senior Night festivities.

After tallying the game’s first run in the opening frame, Riverside erupted for eight runs to put the Vikings out of reach. The big inning was powered by singles by Fryer and Rosenberger, a triple by Ottaviani, by Sterner, a fielder’s choice by Williams, and an error on a ball put in play by Bissell.

Rosenberger toed the rubber one last time on her home turf, allowing two hits and one run over six innings. The senior, and Barry University commit, struck out 13 batters in the victory.

On the game, Riverside swatted 11 hits. Ottaviani (3-3, 4 RBIs, 1 3B), Danny Rosenberger (3-4, 3 runs, 1 RBI, 1 3B), and Williams (2-3, 3 runs, 3 RBIs) managed multiple hits offensively.

The Panthers (11-4 Overall, 8-4 Section 1-2A) will next await their pairings in the WPIAL Softball Playoffs. Section foe Neshannock took the Class AA Section 1 crown with an undefeated 12-0 mark in section play.
