Drake, Hoover Each Homer; Riverside Defeats Brentwood In WPIAL Opening Round

Addison Drake and Saeryn Hoover each homered and drove in three runs as Riverside earned a 6-1 opening round victory over Brentwood in the WPIAL 2A Softball Playoffs.

With her homerun Drake tied the Lady Panthers single season homerun record.

A double by Saeryn Hoover helped open up the scoring with a run scoring double in the bottom of the first. The catcher then connected on a 2-run home run to left field in the bottom of the third inning.

After Brentwood scratched out a run in the fifth inning the Panthers added two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a home run to left field by Drake.

Joci Cummings earned the win for Riverside. The hurler surrendered four hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out nine and walking two.

The Lady Panthers collected 10 hits in the game. Adde Burry, Cummings, Drake, and Hoover each collected two hits for Riverside as the 2-3-4-5 hitters accounted eight hits, five runs scored and all six RBIs in the contest.

Izabella Fedunok, Carma Coberly, Tommie Sheets, and Delaney Rosing each collected one hit for Brentwood in defeat.

#7 Riverside will play #2 seed Char-Houston High School on Monday, May 18th at 4:00 p.m. at Peters Township.
