Lady Wolverines Advance With Victory Over South Allegheny

The Ellwood City girls softball team advanced in the Class 3-A WPIAL Playoffs with a 4-1 first round victory over South Allegheny on Tuesday afternoon. Madi Krugh was the winning pitcher for the Wolverines. She went seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out two. Wolverines Varsity Softball Leads In Fifth Inning For Victory Over Shenango

Wolverines defeated Shenango 10-5 on Thursday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at four with Wolverines batting in the bottom of the fifth when Maria Ioanilli grounded out, scoring one run. Shenango got on the board in the first inning when Kaylyn Chapman doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Shenango knotted the game up at four in the top of the fourth inning. Shutouts Galore: Riverside, Ellwood Varsity Baseball and EC Jr High Softball Impress

Sean Busby Shuts Out Mohawk Area, Wolverines Take The Win. Sean Busby didn’t allow a single run as Ellwood City Wolverines defeated Mohawk Area 3-0 on Tuesday. Busby allowed just one hit. The pitching was strong on both sides. Busby struck out nine, while Cummings sat down zero. Wolverines fired up the offense in the first inning, when Sammy DiCaprio singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. One bright spot for Mohawk was a single by Toscano in the fifth inning. Ellwood City Junior High Softball Team Runs Undefeated Streak to 7 Games

7 was the number of the day as the Lady Wolverines raised their record to 7-0 with a 7-0 victory over Laurel on the Spartan’s home turf. EC’s Angie Nardone and Laurel’s Grace Kissick were locked in a pitcher’s duel that saw the game scoreless until the top of the fourth with each team managing to get just 1 base runner. EC Junior High Softball Team Now 5-0 After 12-0 Victory Over Freedom

The Lady Wolverines pounded out 13 hits at Stiefel Park on Monday evening in a game halted after 5 innings by the Mercy Rule.   Aliya Garroway and Grace Balin led the offensive onslaught with 2 hits apiece. Garroway tripled and doubled while Balin tripled and singled. Jenna Vetica, Jaidyn Leviere, and Maddie Hicks each contributed doubles in the contest with Leviere’s being her first career hit at the junior high level. PHOTOS: Four RBI Day for Mittler Leads Wolverines Rout Over Riverside

Four runs batted in from Reagan Mittler helped lead Wolverines past Riverside in a 20-5 rout on Saturday. Mittler drove in runs on a single in the first and a double in the second. The Wolverines (3-2 overall) fired up the offense in the first inning, when Anna Ferrucci singled scoring the game’s first run.  Ellwood City scored in every inning thereafter including a 9-run outburst in the second frame. The undefeated Avonworth Antelopes scored in extra innings to bounce Ellwood City baseball team on Wednesday while the Avonworth softball team put up a scoring barrage in dismissing the Riverside softball team.  Despite two homeruns, the Ellwood City softball team fell to Steel Valley after a 3-run seventh inning proved a third and final lead change. A walk-off single propelled Wolverines to a decisive, dramatic victory over Avonworth, 20-19 on Friday afternoon. Wolverines trailed 19-18 in the bottom of the seventh inning after rallying from a double digit deficit when Reagan Mittler singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. There was plenty of action on the basepaths as Wolverines collected 13 hits and Avonworth had 11 in a wild game that featured four combined home runs, 24 walks by both teams, and ten combined errors in the contest. The Ellwood City baseball squad watched their Monday afternoon game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 13-2 loss to Shenango. The Wolverines struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Shenango, giving up 13 runs. The South Park Eagles stunned the consecutive WPIAL Championship Ellwood City Wolverines by pounding out eleven hits en route to a 11-0 mercy-rule victory in the PIAA 3-A Softball Playoffs at North Allegheny High School Thursday afternoon.
