The Ellwood City girls softball team advanced in the Class 3-A WPIAL Playoffs with a 4-1 first round victory over South Allegheny on Tuesday afternoon. Wolverines defeated Shenango 10-5 on Thursday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at four with Wolverines batting in the bottom of the fifth when Maria Ioanilli grounded out, scoring one run. Sean Busby Shuts Out Mohawk Area, Wolverines Take The Win. Sean Busby didn’t allow a single run as Ellwood City Wolverines defeated Mohawk Area 3-0 on Tuesday. Busby allowed just one hit. The pitching was strong on both sides. Busby struck out nine, while Cummings sat down zero. 7 was the number of the day as the Lady Wolverines raised their record to 7-0 with a 7-0 victory over Laurel on the Spartan’s home turf. The Lady Wolverines pounded out 13 hits at Stiefel Park on Monday evening in a game halted after 5 innings by the Mercy Rule.   Aliya Garroway and Grace Balin led the offensive onslaught with 2 hits apiece. Garroway tripled and doubled while Balin tripled and singled.
