Wolverines Blast Blackhawk, Rozanski Earns 200th Career Victory

Ellwood City made quick work of Blackhawk Tuesday afternoon at Stiefel Park, earning head coach Gary Rozanski his 200th career coaching victory. The non-section contest was halted after five innings as the Lady Wolverines mercy ruled the Cougars 15-1. The Wolverines started quickly Tuesday as Amber Mcquistion knocked in Julie Nardone with a single and Sara Schwarz knocked in two more with a line drive to right field to make it 3-0. Lady Wolverines Nip Mohawk 4-3, Improves to 4-1 Overall

Wednesday evening’s game between Ellwood City and Mohawk at Stiefel Park had a playoff feel even though it was just the second section game for both squads. Both pre-season favorites to compete for the section crown entered the game with 0-1 section records and the winner would jump right back into the section race while the loser would be in a deeper hole. The game was a back and forth nail biter dominated by pitching and defense that featured some late game heroics by the Lady Wolverines to came away with a 4-3 victory. COACH TALK: Ellwood City and Riverside Softball Teams Each Look To Continue Playoff Streaks

Both Ellwood City and Riverside softball teams will enter their 2023 regular season campaigns with sights set on returning to the WPIAL Playoffs, continuing streaks for both teams. For the Lady Wolverines, a playoff streak currently rests at eight straight seasons, and the girls will look to it nine this spring. The Ellwood City baseball and softball teams both earned victories on Monday. The Lady Wolverines earned a resounding 10-0 victory over Beaver Falls as part of their Senior Night festivities. The boys baseball team will look for a mini sweep and to match the softball senior night victory when they host Mohawk on Tuesday at Sanders Field in Ewing Park. Ellwood City softball programs are off to great starts this spring, with the varsity squad improving to 4-0 while the junior high team collected a resounding victory to continue its great play. Wolverines Varsity Defeats South Park, Record Now 4-0 Once again, the bats came out hot as the Lady Wolverines beat South Park last night 15-5 at Stiefel Park. Rozanski to Stay as Head Coach of Wolverine Softball

Gary Rozanski Jr. will remain the head coach of the girls varsity softball team at Lincoln High School. During the November 14th Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors meeting, a group of parents—many of whose children are involved in a youth program not affiliated with the district and have not been coached by Rozanski—demanded consideration of a new varsity softball coach. It was announced at the December 5 directors meeting that Rozanski will stay on as coach. Ariana Garroway was an RBI machine on Monday, driving in four runs on three hits while Natalia Greco slugged a homerun to power the Wolverines past North Catholic 9-6 on Monday. Garroway drove in runs on a grand slam in the first as the Wolverines batted around and raced out to an early 9-0 lead at home. North Catholic scored five runs in the third inning, but Wolverines still managed to pull out the victory. Garroway went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Wolverines in hits. Varsity Softball Knocks Off Previously Unbeaten Avonworth Record Now 8-4 Avonworth walked into Stiefel Park with an unblemished 13-0 record and were ranked as the #1 team in WPIAL Class 3A. They left with their first loss of the season as The Lady Wolverines made a statement with a convincing 6-1 win. Varsity Softball Team Defeats Beaver Falls; Improves To 3-1 After spotting the Tigers a 2-0 lead on two singles and two errors in the top of the first, The Lady Wolverines would score the next 17 runs to win the three-inning mercy rule shortened game by a final of 17-2. EC Varsity Softball Team Defeats Shenango; Improves to 2-1 on the Season

After a losing effort on Thursday against Ambridge, the Lady Wolverines got back to their winning ways on Saturday afternoon as they beat Shenango 14-2 on the Wildcats home turf.  The game was much closer than the final score as the Wolverines held a slim 3-2 lead until the fifth inning.
