Wolverines Defeat New Brighton, Host Riverside Friday

Ellwood City Wolverines boys basketball team won 53-34 against New Brighton on Tuesday with the help of Sean Busby, who scored team high 13 points. The Wolverines scored early, claiming a 24-12 lead at the half. Lincoln cemented their lead in the final quarter, scoring 16 points, to avenge their 2-point home loss to New Brighton in December.  Ellwood City also snapped a three game losing streak. EC Amateur Baseball Registration

It’s that time of year again – the Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Registration is looking for players for the upcoming season. This year the team will be playing on the newly renovated Friedhoff Field, something that EC Baseball team member Mike Widmaier said the team is looking forward to. “Little League baseball was established in Williamsport, PA in 1939. Youth baseball has been a staple in Ellwood City since 1950. So as we approach our 68th season we are excited to begin play in late April on our newly renovated Friedhoff Field in the Ewing Park Sports Complex.” Signup information…

Ellwood VS. Riverside Tickets on Sale

Student tickets for this Friday’s, Ellwood City Boy’s Varsity Basketball Game versus Riverside are on sale in the high school office. The cost is $2 per ticket. No student tickets will be sold at the door for this game. All tickets at the door will be $5 general admission and $1 for senior citizens.

Ellwood City Wolverines Lose to Farrell

Although Anthony Roth put 14 points on the scoreboard, Lincoln fell to Farrell 45-43 Wednesday night in non-section play.   Kyi Wright connected on a driving shot with under five seconds the play that turned into the game winner for Farrell. Ellwood City Wolverines scored early in the game, boasting a 19-18 lead at the half, but Farrell ultimately came back for the victory after trailing by three points entering the final frame.  Wright finished with a game-high 21 points for Farrell (10-18 shooting, 8 rebounds). Despite Pitrelli’s Performance From Deep, Wolverines Lose to Lincoln Park

Despite a strong performance from 3-point range from Rick Pitrelli, Ellwood City fell to top-ranked Lincoln Park 64-50 Tuesday Night in Section 1-3A play. Pitrelli connected on five 3-pointers en route to his team high 17 points (5-10 shooting, 3 rebounds, 4 assists) The junior forward connected on trifecta of deep balls in an entertaining first quarter that saw the Wolverines race out to a 17-15 lead. Lincoln High Graduate Named to WPCC All-Academic Team

Butler, PA– Madison Morella, a 2017 Lincoln High graduate and freshman on a Butler County Community College volleyball team that in October captured its 14th Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference title since 1977, is one of 19 BC3 fall sports athletes named to the WPCC all-academic team. Morella, who achieved high honors, was a middle hitter on a BC3 squad that posted an 18-6 record and whose WPCC crown was its ninth under coach Rob Snyder and third in a row after sweeping the Community College of Beaver County on Oct. 22. Ellwood City Wolverines Notch Win Against Mohawk Area

Lincoln won 66-54 against Mohawk Area on Tuesday with the help of Broc Boariu, who scored 22 points. Ellwood City Wolverines pulled away early with a 22-point first quarter after an impressive 22-2 run, eventually claiming a 36-20 lead by halftime. With a field goal percentage of 47% (7-for-15), Boariu had a great game from the field, also sinking 50% (6-for-12) of threes attempted. Lady Panthers Top Wolverines In Rivalry Game 2.0

For some, the buzz of Friday Night’s boys basketball game may have worn off by the end of the weekend, but if anyone needed another reason to get excited for high school basketball action, the buzz resurfaced Monday Night during the Panthers and Wolverines girls basketball game in Ellwood City. The Lady Panthers ousted the Lady Wolverines 45-31 in a game that saw a defensive struggle for much of the first half.
