Panthers, Wolverines Baseball Teams On Opposite Ends of Shutouts

The Riverside varsity baseball team came out on the victors end of a shutout on Thursday while the Wolverines took a shutout defeat on Thursday.

The Panthers defeated Mohawk Area 8-0 on Thursday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.

Riverside notched four runs in the sixth inning. Ethan Ziegler, Danny Fox, and Brian MacMurdo all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Fox took the win for Riverside Riverside Panthers Varsity. He lasted six and a third innings, allowing four hits and zero runs while striking out eight. Ottaviani threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Brett Bobin took the loss for Mohawk Area. He surrendered four runs on six hits over four innings, striking out four. The Warriors defense committed six errors in the contest.

The Panthers (1-1 overall) collected nine hits on the day with seven starters collecting at least one base hit. MacMurdo and Ty Thellman all had multiple hits for Riverside while Gunner Boehm powered the offense with a 2-run home run.

Ellwood City Wolverines Loses Lead Early in Defeat

The Ellwood City Wolverines fell behind early and couldn’t come back in their 5-0 loss to Beaver Falls on Thursday.

Beaver Falls took the lead on a single in the second inning and poured in three runs in the 7th inning to stretch their lead. Beaver Falls got things started in the second inning when Noah Rinker’s wild pitch allowed one run to score for Beaver Falls.

A single by Sammy DeCaprio in the second inning was a positive for Ellwood City Wolverines while Blaze Chambers collected the only other hit for the Wolverines in defeat.

Rinker took the loss for Ellwood City Wolverines. He surrendered two runs on five hits over five and a third innings, striking out six. Chambers and DeCaprio each collected one hit to lead Ellwood City (0-3 overall).

Cameron Kern got the win for Beaver Falls. He lasted six and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out eight. Biggy Solomon threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Beaver Falls scattered eight hits in the game. Dalyn Brickner, Curt Pagely, and Mike Filaurie each racked up multiple hits for Beaver Falls.
