69th Ellwood City Little League Tournament Starts Monday

The 69th Ellwood City Little League Tournament will begin Monday night at Freidhoff Field at the Ewing Park Baseball Complex. The tournament, which began in 1952, will double-elimination three-game minimum per team format. The teams entered in the tournament are host Ellwood City, Riverside, Neshannock, Seneca Valley North and Mohawk. The teams participating represent some of the most successful baseball programs in western Pennsylvania. These programs have contributed to their respective high schools capturing 68 section titles, 20 WPIAL championships and nine PIAA state crowns. The Lady Wolverines put together another solid team effort and defeated Wilmington on Tuesday evening in a battle for the #1 seed. Ellwood City came away with a hard fought 6-4 victory. Delmar Golf Course Crowns Club Champion

Sam Barry, Jr. collected his 10th Delmar Golf Course Club Championship last weekend at Delmar Golf Course. Barry Jr. took home the title with a 1-up victory over Michael Pope. Joey Hudson earned top honors as the A-Flight Champion with a 3/2 victory over Noah Rinker and Zac Carr collected the B-Flight championship with a 1-up victory over Chris Weisz. Riverside Graduate Takes Home 2nd In Golf Tournament

Justin Hand might’ve just celebrated graduating from Riverside High School, but he’s already back into the swing of things in tournament golf. Hand came in second place this past weekend at the WPGA Junior Championship. He finished with a total gross of 69, falling one short from the 1st place winner Rocco Salvitti of Canonsburgh. Ellwood City Summer Colt League Team Enjoying Successful Season

When school got cancelled, so did the sports that were left to be completed. Seniors were left without a senior season, and plenty of other athletes were left disappointed. Thankfully, our county was lucky enough that we could have summer leagues for the local athletes playing softball and baseball. PLAY BALL! Koppel Baseball Scrimmage Game Played After Renovations

A short scrimmage game took place Friday evening in Koppel Borough after the Potter Baseball Tour visited and spend hours working on the borough baseball field. Borough volunteers helped put the finishing touches on the refurbished Sixth Avenue Baseball Field. Led by former Ellwood City pitching ace Jeff Potter, this elite team not only plays a month-long schedule against ball teams all over the northeast, they also perform community service in every town they visit.  The Potter’s Pirates spent three days laboring on the Historic Koppel diamond to make this pick-up game a reality. Potter Baseball Tour Comes To Koppel Friday

On Friday July 17th, the Potter Baseball Tour will be coming to the Koppel Borough baseball field. Renovations will start at 7:00 AM and they need all the help they can get with a minimum need of 60 workers including volunteers and players. Grant Announced To Turn Stonecrest Golf Course Into Business Park

State Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) announced this week the Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded a $2 million Business in Our Sites grant and a $3 million Business in Our Sites loan for the development of what will become the former Stonecrest Golf Course into the Stonecrest Business Park located in New Beaver Borough. The Lawrence County Economic Development Corporation (LCEDC), in cooperation with Stonecrest Business Park (SBP), plans to develop the former golf course into the Stonecrest Business Park. VIRTUAL FUN: Local Athletes Complete In Special Olympics of PA Virtual Summer Games

This summer, over 1,000 athletes participated in the Virtual Summer Games (VSG) weekend Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 14, 2020. The VSG was hosted by the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania in lue of the normal Summer Games that had to be canceled because of COVID-19. The Special Olympics of Pennsylvania connected athletes and with athletes through Facebook as well as using YouTube videos as reference within emails.
