Riverside Graduate Takes Home 2nd In Golf Tournament

Justin Hand might’ve just celebrated graduating from Riverside High School, but he’s already back into the swing of things in tournament golf.

Hand came in second place this past weekend at the WPGA Junior Championship. He finished with a total gross of 69, falling one short from the 1st place winner Rocco Salvitti of Canonsburgh. The WPGA Junior Championship was Hands’ last junior tournament.

“This tournament made me feel good about my game,” said Hand. “I can’t wait to take this momentum into my next tournament and college.”

Golfing in this tenuous coronavirus pandemic we’re currently living with seems to be one of the things that Justin had a simpler time adjusting with.

According to Hand, at the tournament they used digital scoring instead of paper scorecards, golfers were not allowed to take out the pins or rake the bunkers. He also said that social distancing was amplified.

“Hopefully I can break thru after get this second place and get a win in one of upcoming events,” commented Hand.

Hand will be attending Tiffin University in Ohio and will also be joining their golf team. Hand has been golfing since he was 4 years old, and throughout his high school career, played for the Riverside golfing team. He has one more tournament before he leaves in August for the West Penn open at Shannopin. As of currently, his freshman fall season is still on.

“I can’t wait to get out to college and get to work with my teammates,” said Hand.
