Wolverines Notch A Comeback Victory Over Lancers

Ellwood City boys basketball team gained a come-from-behind victory against Neshannock 58-55 on Friday with the help of Steve Antuono, who scored game-high 27 points. After trailing 36-32 after three quarters, and by as many as six points in several occasions in the fourth quarter, the Wolverines clawed back to victory, scoring the last seven points of the contest. Lady Wolverines Defend Home Court, Beat Beaver Falls

The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines defended home court Monday night in a backyard battle with neighboring Beaver Falls, defeating the Tigers 53-48.  Ellwood City used points from distance in pivotal third quarter and later at the free throw line to secure the section win. Three out of six player were in double figures including senior Isabella Roth with a team-high 15 points (four 3-pointers; 3-8 from the line). Wolverines Notch A Win Against Mohawk Area

Steve Antuono scored a game-high 21 points to lead Ellwood City to a 51-45 victory over Mohawk Area on Saturday. The Wolverines (4-6 overall) ran away with an early lead after a 15-point second quarter, running up the lead to 27-18 by halftime. Antuono collected three 3-pointers on his way to high game-high point total (6-15 overall, 3-6 3-pointers). He also shot well from the line, making 86% (6-for-7) of free throws attempted. Alberts, Walley Collect MAC Wrestling Championships

Wolverine wrestlers Jake Alberts and Austin Walley collected victories and championships on Saturday at the Ed Driscoll MAC tournament at Freedom High School. Walley was also voted Most Outstanding Wrestler in the 16-team tournament. Wolverine Basketball Teams Each Collect Tournament Championships

Both Ellwood City Wolverine boys and girls basketball teams collected holiday tournament championships over the weekend.  The boys basketball team took the Mercer Christmas Tournament championship Friday while the girls basketball team upset the host Spartans to collect a Laurel Christmas Tournament championship on Saturday. Wolverines Win versus Fort LeBoeuf Ellwood City was victorious against Fort LeBoeuf 63-48 on Friday with the help of Rick Pitrelli, who scored 20 points. Two Wolverine Wrestlers Place In Holiday Tournament

Our two local high school boys basketball teams split their opening games in selective Holiday Tournaments on Thursday. Ellwood City defeated Moniteau in its opening game of a Mercer Tournament while Riverside was knocked off by Shaler Area in its opening game of a Seneca Valley holiday tournament.  Games resume today for each boys basketball team. Five Wolverine wrestlers collected match victories Wednesday night, but Ellwood City fell to Beaver Area 42-27. Ellwood City Wrestling Team Has Early Success

This past weekend, the Ellwood City varsity boys wrestling team began their 2018-2019 season at the 22-team Hickory Invitational. The wrestling team is lead by seniors Jake Alberts and Donavin Chambers, along with their teammates Austin Walley, Donavin Chambers and Zach Polojoic. At the weekend invitational, Walley took first place in his 182-pound class, collecting a 15-3 decision over Elijah Ayers (Coudersport) while Chambers placed second in his 138-pound final, falling 7-2 in the finals.
