Hudson Qualifies For PIAA Golf Championships

Ellwood City’s Joey Hudson shot a round of 83 at the par-70 Allegheny Country Club Thursday afternoon to finish 11th overall in the WPIAL boys golf championships, helping qualify for the state championships later this month. “My round at Allegheny was a roller coaster as I had many ups and downs throughout,” Hudson said. “The playing conditions at the course were tough as the winds were very high and the greens were lightning quick. Undefeated EC Boys Cross Country Team Wins Section Championship

The Ellwood City Boys Cross Country team remained undefeated with a victory this week and earned itself a section championship. The Wolverines boys defeated Riverside and Mohawk on Tuesday in earning their eleventh victory of the season.  The boys (11-0 overall) will next turn to MAC Championships at Brush Creek Park on October 14th beginning at 3:00 p.m. Varsity results: Ellwood City 21, Mohawk 38; Ellwood City 20, Riverside 43. Governor Wolf to Reinstate Crowd Gathering Restrictions

Thursday afternoon the PIAA received information that the Third Circuit Court of Appeals issued a stay of Judge Stickman’s decision striking the Governor’s COVID-19 restrictions in several areas. The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted a request from Gov. Tom Wolf to reinstate crowd gathering restrictions designed to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The most important for the PIAA purposes is the limitation on gatherings. The PIAA is hopeful that there may be some modifications to the restrictions. Sesti Leads EC Golf; EC Volleyball & Cross Country Remain Undefeated

Milo Sesti led the Ellwood City boys golf team to victory on Tuesday while the Ellwood City girls volleyball team and the Ellwood City co-ed cross country team were each victorious and both remain unbeaten. For the boys golf team, the 198-225 victory over Shenango at Delmar Golf Course was led by Sesti’s round of 36. Joining Sesti in the 30’s was Joey Hudson who finished with a round of 39 for the Wolverines. Ellwood City Homecoming Queen & King Announced

Congratulations are in order for the 2020 Ellwood City Homecoming Queen and King! The winners were announced Friday night during the Ellwood City varsity football game at Helling Stadium that pitted the Wolverines against Beaver Falls.  Ellwood City was defeated 54-26 in the football contest. Ticket Information for Ellwood City Homecoming Game

As provided by the Ellwood City Area School District, the following is ticket information for the Ellwood City Homecoming Football game this Friday. The Wolverines will host Beaver Falls at 7:00 p.m. at Helling Stadium. STUDENT TICKETS: Student Tickets will be sold Wednesday and Thursday during school hours in the Principal’s Office. LOCAL SPORTS: EC Girls Tennis Defeats Riverside, Girls Volleyball Stays Unbeaten

The Ellwood City Girls Varsity tennis team came away with a 4-1 victory over rival Riverside on Monday. The visiting Wolverines used strong efforts by Maddy McCommons in singles play and Cassidy Navolio and Anna Williams in doubles to earn the victory. The 64th annual Lincoln High School Homecoming football game will be played this Friday at 7:00 p.m. when the Wolverines will host the Beaver Falls Tigers. This year, Homecoming festivities will look a little different due to Covid-19. A Homecoming King will be crowned at a ceremony to take place at Helling Stadium at 4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon. ECASD Board Votes to Allow 1/4 Capacity at District Events

The Ellwood City School Area School District’s Board of Directors voted to allow spectators at events at ¼ capacity, but those in attendance will be required to wear masks, to social distance, and to sign a waiver excusing the district from liability. In a 6-1 vote the board decided that Ellwood City sports will now be played with the support of the community. Director Gary Rozanski was the lone No vote, and Directors Kathy McCommons and Norman Boots were not in attendance during the vote.
