Skyler Fox Claims MAC Boys Golf Championship

It has been a special two days for the Riverside Golf team. First, on Tuesday both Justin Hand and Skyler Fox individually qualified for the WPIAL Individual Finals. And more recently, on Wednesday at the Midwestern Athletic Conference (MAC) boys golf championship, Fox took home the Championship after carding a 4-under round of 68 at the aptly named Fox Run Golf Course in Beaver Falls. PHOTOS: Big Plays Doom Wolverines In Defeat; Riverside Panthers Victorious

Big plays doomed the Ellwood City, as a 94-yard first quarter touchdown run, kick-started what became on offensive onslaught by Neshannock as the visiting Lancers routed the Wolverines 44-0 Friday night. The Lancers used five scoring plays of over 30 yards, including two scoring runs of 55+ yards, to race away to victory. Ellwood City School Board Approves Soccer Funding

The Ellwood City School Board voted unanimously Thursday to approve funding of no more than $4,300 to the boys and girls teams for transportation and referee costs. Before the vote, during the visitors comment portion, numerous soccer supporters spoke on behalf of the teams. Jerry Hermann, visitor, told the board saying no is saying no to a dedicated group of kids. “Be encouragers, not discouragers,” Hermann said. Ellwood City School Board to Vote on Soccer Program Funding

The soccer debate continues within the Ellwood City School Board. During the board’s September 9 agenda meeting, board continued the back and forth discussion regarding whether or not funding should be provided to the boys and girls soccer club. Three players from the boys “club” were in attendance. One player Levi Smith spoke on behalf of the team. He assured the board that the team is dedicated to the season as well as growing the roster through recruiting efforts. Boariu Collects Hole-In-One At DelMar Golf Course

Broc Boariu, 19, of Ellwood City, hit a hole-in-one Sunday at Delmar Golf Course.  This particular hole-in-one was rare in so much it was collected on a Par 4 – the 325-yard, Hole 6 at the course. “I didn’t see it go in so I was looking for it for around 10-15 minutes,” said Boariu. “We checked the hole and it was there.” Boariu, who was playing in a foursome with Sam Barry Jr., Gino Bellissimo, and Chad Reed, hit driver from the tee box. “That was my first hole in one and the closest I’ve ever come was probably…

The official start to the 2019 WPIAL football season began last night as 118 teams were in action Friday. For the Wolverines, they were competing in their second game of the season against the Serra Catholic Eagles from McKeesport, PA.
