Roth Nets 1,000th Career Point, Wolverines Clinch First-Ever Section Championship

Two records were set Tuesday night at Mohawk when the Ellwood City Wolverines defeated the host Warriors 57-31. First, in the second quarter, Alexander Roth connected on the first of his two free throw attempts to earn his 1,000th career point. The senior scored 19 of his team-high 20 points (two 3-pointers, four rebounds) in the first half to help the Wolverines gain a 36-14 halftime advantage. Second, and at the final buzzer, the Wolverines (18-2 Overall, 8-0 Section 1-3A) clinched an outright section championship, the first section championship in school history. Ellwood City Wrestling Set To Finish Season Strong; Senior Night Wednesday

The Ellwood City Wrestling team is set to have its only home match of the season on Wednesday, February 9th against Sharon. The Wolverines (3-7 Overall, 2-2 League) will recognize its seniors during the home match for a Senior Night festivities. The team features two seniors, Jaden Stull (his first year wrestling) and Donavin Stiffler (his second year wrestling). The team will celebrate Senior Night and then varsity will wrestle beginning at 7:00 p.m. There will be no junior high wrestlers in attendance as a rescheduled tournament has the junior high team at a MAC tournament in Freedom on Wednesday….

PHOTOS: EC Girls Cruise Past Riverside, EC Boys Knock Off Neshannock

The Ellwood City Girls Basketball team used an impressive 23-3 first quarter spurt to cruise to a 47-15 victory over rival Riverside on Tuesday night. Three Wolverines finished in double figures led by senior guard Kyla Servick who finished with a game-high 12 points. Saige Chambers (11 points) and Emily Sedgwick (10 points) joined Servick in double figures for an Ellwood City team (7-9 Overall, 4-5 Section 1-3A) that has now collected three consecutive victories. Ellwood City Little Wolverines Announces 2022 Cheer Boot Camp

The Ellwood City Little Wolverines will hold a cheer boot camp over the course of three Saturdays in late February and early March The camp is for children currently in grades 2nd through 5th and will be held on Saturday, February 19th, Saturday, February 26th, and Saturday March 5th from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on each Saturday. The camp is scheduled to take place at Diamond Dance Academy, located at 310 1st Street, in Ellwood City.  The cost is $35.00 per child which includes a t-shirt. Ellwood City used a decisive first quarter to race out to an early lead in its eventual 60-45 victory over rival Riverside Friday evening at Riverside High School. The Wolverines used 10 first quarter points by sophomore Joseph Roth to race out to a 19-4 advantage.  The 15 point cushion held through halftime as the teams played even through halftime with Ellwood City ahead 31-16 at the break. Ellwood City Wrestling Takes 3rd Place In Section Duals

The Ellwood City Wrestling team posted a 3rd place finish at the WPIAL AA Section 2-A Duals qualifying tournament at Laurel High School Tuesday evening. The team defeated Ambridge and Central Valley but were defeated by Freedom Area and the host Laurel Spartans. The top two teams qualify out of the section for playoffs. Wilmington Hockey Extends Point Streak, Routs Burrell 8-1

The Wilmington hockey team defeated Burrell 8-1 at Hess Ice Rink on Tuesday extending their team point streak to eight straight game. The Hounds scored the only goal in the first period when Davis Phanco (Wilmington) lit the lamp. The goal was assisted by Andrew Cartwright (Union) and Chance Miller (Wilmington). Ellwood City big man Joseph Roth showed his prowess on both ends of the court Tuesday night, collecting 35 points and hauling in 20 rebounds to lead the Wolverines to a 49-35 victory over section foe Laurel. After an uneventful first quarter, Roth heated up and scored 11 points in the second quarter that saw the host Wolverines pull away for a 19-9 halftime advantage. Ellwood City Wrestling MAC Tournament Results

The Ed Driscoll MAC Wrestling Tournament is one of the biggest wrestling tournaments that features some of the best talent from all around the country. The 24 team tournament saw Quaker Valley crowned as top overall team win with 223 points, beating out other powerhouse teams such as West Allegheny, Laurel, Montour, and Central Valley.  Ellwood City finished 11th overall with 39.0 points. ECASD Hires Head Football Coach; Approves COVID Health and Safety Plan

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors hired Daniel Bradley to serve as head coach of varsity football. Bradley received unanimous support from the board. He will be paid $7,000. “The students are elated,” said Brian Partridge, football boosters president, who was in attendance at the meeting. Bradley has a decade of experience serving as head coach. During that time, he has a 80-33 record. He has appeared in four WPIAL title games, with a winning title in 2018.
