Wampum Native Named River States Conference Athlete of the Year/Week

Carlow University freshman and Wampum native Keri Lechner was selected River States Conference Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and of the Week for her performance Feb. 15-21. “It honestly felt really amazing to be able to be named the women’s indoor track athlete of the year and week considering I’m a freshman,” Lechner said. “It’s sort of like a fever dream to me.” A Shenango class of 2020 graduate, Lechner was voted the conference’s outstanding track athlete of the year after starring at the RSC Indoor Track & Field Championships, where she won five events and competed in seven events…

The Ellwood City Wolverines girls and boys basketball teams each defeated the Panthers and swept the rivalry doubleheader Tuesday night at Riverside High School. The girls ran away with a 42-12 victory in the first game while the boys used a strong second half to collect its 80-53 victory in the second game of the evening. For the girls, the cousin duo of Junior Kyla Servick and Freshman Claire Noble combined for 30 points. Weisz Named ECASD Varsity Baseball Coach

Chris Weisz has been named the Ellwood City Area School District’s Boys Baseball Coach for the 2021 season. Weisz grew up in Ellwood City and still lives here with his wife, Gabriella, and their three sons Gavyn (9), Greyson (4), and Geno (1). Antuono Scores 32, Wolverines Power Past Mohawk

Steve Antuono scored a game high 32 points to lead the Ellwood City Wolverines to its 78-45 romp over Mohawk Friday night. The junior connected on six 3-pointers, including four in the second half, to pace the Wolverines offensive attack.  Antuono scored 11 points in the fast paced first quarter which saw Ellwood City take an early 24-8 advantage. The Ellwood City Girls Basketball team has collected two impressive victories at home this week. On Monday, the Lady Wolverines secured a section win over the visiting Beaver Falls Tigers by a score of 48-44. Ellwood City was led by junior Kyla Servick who poured in 15 points. Senior Maria Ioanilli joined Servick in double-digits posting 12 points, including two clutch free throws at the end of the game. Ellwood City Connects On 11 3-Pointers, Bounces Rival Riverside

Ellwood City was red hot from deep on Friday night, connecting on 11 3-pointers en route to its easy 71-33 victory over rival Riverside at Lincoln High School. Roth Scores 31, Ellwood City Defeats Rochester

Freshman Joseph Roth scored 31 points and Ellwood City used an impressive fourth quarter to pull away for a 61-50 non-section victory over Rochester Tuesday night. Ellwood City outscored the visiting Rams 19-3 in the fourth quarter after trailing by five points entering the final frame. Wolverine Wrestling Collects One Win In Laurel Duals Tournament

The Ellwood City Wolverines wrestling team finished 1-4 in the 2021 Laurel Duals wrestling tournament over the weekend at Laurel High School. The Wolverines collected its 39-24 victory over New Castle on Saturday in the opening round of the tournament.
