Wolverines Junior High Softball Holds On For Victory; Varsity Baseball Defeated By Vikings

The Ellwood City junior high softball team was able to stave off a 10-run fourth inning and subsequent rallying attempts by Beaver to preserve a 13-12 victory on Friday at Beaver.

The Wolverines jumped out to an early 8-0 lead but saw the host Bobcats post a 10-run fourth inning to take its first lead of the ballgame. Ellwood City responded with four runs in the top half of the fifth inning and an insurance run in the sixth inning to stake a 13-10 lead late.

Beaver responded with a single run in the bottom half of the sixth inning and a run in the bottom half of the seventh frame, and Ellwood City was able to close out and earn the victory.

Three pitchers combined to earn the victory for Ellwood City with Hicks striking out seven Bobcats across her 3.2 innings of relief.

Amber McQuistion collected a team-high three hits (1 2B) and three RBIs to pace the offense. Gillian knocked in four runs with her two singles for Ellwood City. Luccarelli, Prestopine, Palombi also collected multiple hits for the offense that collected 14 hits in the victory.

Wolverines Baseball Defeated by Vikings

A seven-run inning by the visiting Hopewell pushed the Vikings to a 13-5 victory Friday afternoon at Sanders Field.

Ellwood City trailed 6-2 entering the final frame, but Hopewell posted seven runs to stretch its lead.

The Wolverines rallied for three runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning.

Nick Magnifico and Ashton Wilson each swatted two doubles and scored twice to lead the Wolverines offense. Magnifico collected a team-high two RBIs on the afternoon. Joseph Roth and Bucky Biskup also collected multiple hits for Ellwood City.

Alexander Roth took the loss on the mound for Ellwood City. The started lasted 2.2 innings allowing 3 earned runs. Joseph Roth was called on in middle relief for 3.1 innings but was chased in the final frame. Nardone rounded out the pitching effort, finishing up the final inning of play.

Ellwood City, now 3-6 (3-3) on the season, will next travel on Monday @ Beaver Falls (4:00 PM)
