EC Baseball Rallies Past Freedom; RHS Softball Also Downs The Bulldogs

In a rather successful sweep on Monday, the Ellwood City baseball team rallied to defeat Freedom 4-3 while across the Connoquenessing River, the hosting Riverside Panthers softball team also defeated the Bulldogs 8-3 on Monday.

Ellwood City Grabs Lead In Sixth Inning To Defeat Freedom Area

Ellwood City rallied to gain a lead late in the game in a 4-3 victory over Freedom Area on Monday. The game was tied at three with Ellwood City Wolverines batting in the bottom of the sixth when Alexander Roth grounded out, scoring the game deciding run.

Freedom Area scored three runs in the fifth inning, but the Wolverines still managed to pull out the victory. Freedom Area offense in the inning was led by Isaac Barry and Carter Slowinski, all driving in runs in the frame.

Ellwood City fired up the offense in the first inning when starting pitcher Nick Magnifico drove in two with a single.

In the top of the fifth inning, Freedom Area tied things up at three when an error scored one run for Freedom Area.

Joseph Roth was credited with the victory for Ellwood City. Roth went two and a third innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out six and walking zero in relief of Magnifico.

Magnifico started the game for Ellwood City. Magnifico lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out seven and walking zero.

Magnifico went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Wolverines in hits. Isaiah Lutz doubled for Ellwood City.

Tommy Ward led Freedom Area with two hits in three at bats. Slowinski took the loss for Freedom Area. The pitcher went six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out four.

Ellwood City (2-3 Overall) will travel to face Freedom again on the road Tuesday before its rivalry game against Riverside on Thursday.  The Riverside baseball soundly defeated Aliquippa 16-0 in three innings on Monday.

Panthers Softball Racks Up 13 Hits, Defeats Freedom Area 8-3

Four Lady Panthers collected multiple hits on Monday afternoon to lead Riverside to a convincing 8-3 victory over Freedom Area.

After trailing 3-0 entering the bottom half of the third inning, the Panthers responded with a four run frame to take its lead. Riverside tacked on three runs in the fourth and an insurance run in the fifth inning.

Rosenberger, Hale, Rosenberger, and Ottaviani collected multiple hits for the victors. Aliya Ottaviani ripped a triple en route to her 2-RBI performance.

Sam Rosenberger struck out 11 Bulldogs as part of her 2-hit, complete game performance on the mound. Riverside (3-1 Overall) next will battle New Brighton Tuesday with another tilt against Union Area on Thursday. Both games are schedule for home with 4:00 p.m. start times listed.
