The Riverside Panthers held on Thursday afternoon, escaping late inning jams, to defeat Carmichaels 3-2 and advance to the WPIAL Class-2A semifinals. Alden Wetzel Earns WPIAL Gold, Seven Panthers Qualify For PIAA

Riverside Panther runner Alden Wetzel earned WPIAL gold Wednesday, finishing in 1st place in the 400m dash at the WPIAL Individual Championship meet at Slippery Rock University. The junior finished with a time of 49.94 to earn gold. Wetzel also placed 6th in the high jump with a mark of 5’9″. Wetzel joined six other Panther individuals, and two relay teams, whom qualified for the PIAA State Championships next weekend in Shippensburg. Riverside Boys Track & Field Finishes 2nd Overall In WPIAL Team Championships

A fifth straight WPIAL Championship eluded Riverside on Wednesday as the Panthers boys track and field team finished a close second place in the 2022 WPIAL Class 2A Team Championships at Peters Township High School. The Panthers fell to Shenango after nipping Greensburg Central Catholic, 79-71, and defeating South Park 101.50-48.50 Shenango clinched its first ever title by winning the 1,600-meter relay to edge Riverside. The Panthers boys baseball team met the Shenango Wildcats this week for a crucial home-and-home series to vie for section championship rights. Riverside came up on the short end of both games, falling twice in one-run defeats. On Monday, Riverside battled the Wildcats into an extra-innings affair before a timely squeeze bunt by Wildcats’ Braden Ziegler in the ninth inning scored the game-winning run for the 2-1 a Shenango victory. Reisinger Among 3 Recent NJCAA Division III All-Americans To Be Honored Saturday

Former Lincoln High School standout Breanna Reisinger will be among three athletes honored Saturday at BC3. Reisinger, Morgan Jack, and Aslyn Pry, all first-year student-athletes, have been selected as National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III All-Americans since December and will be recognized Saturday at the BC3 Field House. Reisinger is a graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City; Jack, of Knoch High and Pry, of Moniteau. Reisinger led BC3’s volleyball team in 2021 with 205 kills and Jack, with 635 assists. Both Riverside girls and boys track and field teams found great success during the WPIAL Class 2A team playoff semifinals Wednesday afternoon at Riverside High School’s Memorial Field. Amber McQuistion mowed down the Mohawk Warriors to the tune of a five inning no-hit performance on Wednesday. As a result, the Ellwood City junior high softball team easily defeated the visiting Warriors 10-0. McQuistion struck out 11 batters without issuing a walk in her steller all around performance. She also finished 2-3 at the plate with one run and one RBI on the afternoon.
