PHOTOS: Wolverines Run Away From Carlynton Late, Earn 25-12 Victory

Ellwood City used a 17-yard fourth quarter touchdown run by running back Elijah Palmer-McCane to break at 12-12 tie and lead the Wolverines to its 25-12 victory over Carlynton Friday night at Helling Stadium. Palmer-McCane rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns on the evening as the Wolverines collected over 200 yards on the ground rushing as a team. Palmer-McCane opened up the scoring with a first quarter touchdown run as Ellwood City led early. ELLWOOD CITY GOLF: The Ellwood City golf team was on the short end of a 183-215 defeat the hands of Mohawk on Wednesday at Stonecrest Golf Course. Mohawk was powered by four rounds under par, including a team low round of 34 by Keigan Hopper. For Ellwood City, Mitch Covert led the charge Wednesday, finishing with a team low round of 35. Colten Crizer (38) and Jodan Keller (39) joined Cover with sub-40 rounds. PHOTOS: Panthers Downed By South Side 35-7

Riverside opened up its regular season Friday night, but the Panthers fell at home to South Side by a score of 35-7. After a 12-yard touchdown run by Brady Newman tied the game in the second quarter, the visiting Beavers scored 28 unanswered points to secure the road victory. Robbie Janis led the Panthers with 96 yards rushing on 12 carries, while Ryan Theadore collected 49 yards passing in defeat. Zach Hare hauled in a team-high four receptions for 34 yards for Riverside. The Panthers (0-1 Overall) next travels to Shenango on Friday for a non-conference tilt.

Ellwood City Falls to Union Area 34-21

Ellwood City saw two, early 14-point advantages disappear on Friday as the Wolverines fell to Union Area 34-21 at Helling Stadium. The Wolverines collected the first two scores of the contest and a momentum-swinging 90-yard fumble return by Deklan O’Brien put Ellwood City ahead 21-7 midway through the second quarter. However, the Wolverine offense stalled in the second half and the visiting Scotties roared back with 27 unanswered points to earn the victory. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: After falling to Blackhawk earlier in the week, the Ellwood City Girls Volleyball team rebounded for victory Wednesday. The victory evens the Wolverines early season record at 1-1. On Tuesday, Ellwood City exchanged set victories with the Bridgers and gained the match with a 15-13 5th set victory. The Wolverines won set 1 (25-12) and set 3 (25-17). On Monday, the girls battled back from an early two set deficit against Blackhawk but fell 3-2 in the season opening match. Hack Wilson Marker Dedicated

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society hosted a lively ceremony to dedicate the new Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission roadside marker on Woodside Avenue (State Route 65) honoring Ellwood City-born Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Lewis Robert “Hack” Wilson on Friday August 25, 2023 at the Lincoln High School Baseball Field in Ewing Park. Ellwood City Wolverines 2023 Fall Sports Tickets Now Available

Tickets for the Ellwood City Wolverines Fall Sport Season will be sold on-line at www.gofan.co or the GoFan app. Ellwood City will be slowly making the change to digital ticketing for all sports. There will be no tickets sold at the school at this time according to the district. There will be a limited amount of Adult tickets, $5.00, that can be purchased at the gate for each home game this season. Senior Citizen tickets will still be sold at the gate for $1.00. There will be no Student Tickets sold at the school or at the gate this season….

Borough Council Extends Invite to ECASD Board of Directors to Discuss Softball Field Location Options

Speaking on behalf of the Borough of Ellwood City, Borough Solicitor Ed Leymarie said during Monday night’s meeting that the borough would be glad to meet with the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors to discuss an alternate location for the girl’s softball field. Leymarie said the borough has received numerous phone calls with complaints about the Ewing Park School property location, which is the site that was chosen unanimously by the ECASD’s Board of Directors. “We are prepared to enter into a long-term lease if the school is interested,” he said.
