Ellwood City collected a section victory on the road Tuesday night, picking up a 58-32 victory over the Riverside Panthers.

Joseph Roth led all scorers with 19 points and was among seven Wolverines who scored in the victory.  Roth finished with 13 rebounds and five assists.

Colten Crizer (12 points, five rebounds, four assists) and Nate Williams (10 points, two 3-pointers) joined Roth in double figures.

Ellwood City led 30-14 at halftime and outscored the Panthers 16-3 in the final quarter.

Rob Janis scored a team-high 13 points in defeat for Riverside (5-10 Overall, 2-4 Section 3A-1). Drake Fox connected on three 3-pointers en route to 11 points for the Panthers.

The Riverside Panthers baseball team received their PIAA Championship trophy and player rings during a halftime recognition. In June, the Panthers became the first WPIAL team, at any classification level, to win a PIAA championship with an undefeated record.

Ellwood City (8-6 Overall, 4-2 Section 3A-1) next travels for two away games, first against New Brighton on Friday and also on the road against Quaker Valley on Saturday.

OF NOTE: According to the Ellwood City School District, and due to both Ellwood City and Union girls basketball teams having low numbers, both have agreed to play 6 minute quarters for Thursday evening’s JV game, scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. After both JV teams clear the floor, there will be a 15 minute warm up for the varsity game. After warm up and pre game announcements, the varsity game will start no matter the time around 7:00 p.m.
