BC3 Plans Outdoor, Walk-Thru Mini Ceremonies For Class Of 2021 Commencement

Butler County Community College’s 53rd annual commencement May 19 will feature a series of outdoor, walk-thru mini-ceremonies for successive groups of graduates. The mini-ceremonies will be held on BC3’s main campus in Butler Township. The first of the approximately 45-minute-long mini-ceremonies begins at 1 p.m. and the last, tentatively at 6:15 p.m. Graduates who register for commencement by April 30 will be notified by email about their designated arrival time. REMINDER: Next Borough Yard Waste Pick-Up May 17

According to information made available by the Borough, the next scheduled yard waste pick-up for Ellwood City residents will be the week of May 17, 2021. The borough’s new contract with Valley Waste starts June 1, 2021 that introduces a bi-weekly yard waste pick up schedule. The full schedule will be provided in the near future. In addition to garbage removal, the new contract with Valley Waste also adds additional dates for yard waste pickup. Borough Code Enforcement Reminds Residents of High Grass And Weeds

Its Spring time and the Borough Code Office has been bombarded with complaints of high grass and weeds according to Code Enforcement Officer Ralph Chiappetta. “Some people waited until the last minute to have their mowers serviced and they are now behind,” says Chiapetta. “Also, it seems like people are cleaning out their property, which is a good thing.” But this also poses a problem with trash according to Chiappetta. Ellwood City Junior High Softball Team Improves Record to 4-1 After Win Against Riverside

The Ellwood City Junior High Softball Team improved their season record to 4-1 after a victory against their cross town rival Riverside on Monday night. In the month of April, the team has only suffered a 9-5 loss to Mohawk and is currently on a four game win streak. In their last game against Riverside, the Wolverines took care of business 10-1 with pitchers Emma Bogacki and Amber McQuiston leading the way. Tenaris Bringing Its Koppel Steel Plant Back Online

According to its website news release, Tenaris is pushing ahead with plans to increase its operations across the US, bringing its facilities, including its Koppel and Ambridge plants, back online. With the ongoing expansion, Tenaris is working to boost its employee base in the States by about 1,000. Borough Awards Waste Removal Bid

Ellwood City Borough Council awarded the bid for collection of refuse, recycling, and yard waste to Valley Waste during Monday’s meeting. Borough Manager David Allen said garbage has been on the top of his priority list since he arrived in his position at the borough a little more than two years ago.
