Bernstine Announces Local School District to Receive Ag and Youth Grant

HARRISBURG – Through the Pennsylvania Ag and Youth Grant Program, which Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) supported, a school district located in Lawrence County will receive a grant to help promote student development in agriculture, community leadership, vocational training and peer fellowship. The Perry Lower Intermediate School in Ellwood City was awarded a $7,482 grant to enhance and extend the Garden at Perry Project. The project started three years ago in the back portion of the school. The students have augmented this space by constructing a greenhouse and a glass building in which plants are grown that need protection from cold…

Riverside Boys Track Collects Four WPIAL Individual Championships

The Riverside boys track team collected a total of four championships at the WPIAL Individual Championship meet at Slippery Rock University on Wednesday. Colby Belczyk put on a show. Belczyk won the 800m in 1:54.41 setting a new school record, breaking his own record of 1:54.99 and then teamed up with Alden Wetzel, Brody Barton, and Ty Fluharty, to win the 4×400 relay team with a personal best time of 3:27.65. Lawrence County Special Investigations Unit Executes Two Search Warrants

The Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office recently announced the execution of two search warrants by the Special Investigations Unit that took place in New Castle according to its social media page. PHOTOS: Lady Wolverines Knock Off Deer Lakes, Advance In WPIAL Playoffs

For the sixth consecutive season, the Wolverine softball team won a first round playoff game. Tuesday afternoon’s opening round contest was a back and forth thriller that saw 11th seeded Ellwood City put up a three spot in the top of the seventh inning to turn a 5-4 deficit into a 7-5 victory over the 6th seeded Deer Lakes Lancers. – Ellwood City scored first, as lead off batter Angie Nardone doubled into left center and scored on a two out RBI single to right by Aliya Garroway. GOT BOOKS?: Riverside Elementary Hosts Book Drive

Riverside Elementary School is hosting their annual book drive for students in K-5. Each year the PTO sponsors the AR Store for students in K-5 as part of the reading program. AR stands for Accelerated Reader and the kids can choose books within their reading range and take a short quiz after finishing their book.  Riverside has used this program with great success for several years. Vision Ministries Hosts Fourth Annual Braveheart Testimonial Dinner

Vision Ministries will be hosting the fourth annual Braveheart Testimonial Dinner on May 23rd. The dinner will take place at the New Englander Banquet Center. Doors will open up at 5:00 p.m. and dinner will begin at 5:45 p.m. Tickets are $35.00 per person. This dinner shines light and recognition on the people who have battled the disease of addiction and have won. VOTE: Ellwood City Polling Locations

According to information made available on the Lawrence County government website, polling locations for Ellwood City and surrounding locations are as follows. Registered voters can cast ballots from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 18 at their designated polling place, and those voting by mail-in or absentee ballot should drop their ballots off at the Lawrence County Courthouse by 8 p.m. Tuesday. Bernstine Introduces Constitutional Carry Legislation

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) today introduced “constitutional carry” legislation, which would no longer require law-abiding citizens to obtain a government-issued license to carry a concealed firearm in Pennsylvania. Constitutional carry, or permitless carry, allows an individual over 21 years of age who has passed a criminal background check upon purchase of a firearm to legally carry a handgun concealed without first having to obtain government permission. Current law does not require citizens to obtain a license to openly carry a firearm in Pennsylvania. Letter To The Editor: Ellwood City After Prom

On Friday, May 8th, ninety-seven Ellwood City Juniors & Seniors attended an After Prom in the Lincoln High School big gym. This effort was planned and implemented in less than a month by a dedicated group of parent & community volunteers. The goal of the 2021 After Prom Committee was to provide a safe and fun atmosphere for the students to enjoy at the end of a tough year. The event was held from 11pm-5am directly following the prom.
