Mayor Anthony J. Court of Ellwood City Borough received a service award this month in Hershey, Pennsylvania. May Court was proud to receive the “Cecil K. Ellwood City Man Convicted on Federal Drug Charges

PITTSBURGH, PA – After deliberating for two hours, a federal jury of seven men and five women found Taurean Potter guilty of one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine and one count of Distribution of Cocaine, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced today. Potter, age 33, of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania was tried before United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Senate Approves Criminal Justice Reform Measures

The Senate today (June 5) approved a bipartisan package of criminal justice reforms that will reduce prison and probation costs, better protect crime victims and strengthen public safety, according to Senator Elder Vogel. Senate Bill 500 creates a County Adult Probation and Parole Advisory Committee to help counties better assess the unique risks and needs of probationers to reduce incarceration and cut costs to taxpayers. For the second consecutive year, a Butler County Community College golfer fell just short of All-American status at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III national championships at Chautauqua Golf Club. Senator Vogel Proposes Delay on Costly Vehicle Inspection Mandate

Senator Elder Vogel today (May 30) unveiled a measure that would delay a costly mandate on local garages that ultimately would increase the fees paid by motorists when their vehicles are inspected. Senator Vogel’s legislation would extend the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s November 1 deadline for existing emissions inspection stations to obtain expensive new testing equipment. “My bill is part of a coordinated effort to bring much-needed updates and reforms to Pennsylvania’s emissions testing program. Penn State Extension To Offer Drinking Water Workshop

Penn State Extension in Lawrence County will host a Drinking Water Workshop on Tuesday, June 18, 2019. The workshop will be held from 3-5pm at the New Castle Public Library. The workshop is free. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. This workshop will provide education on proper location, construction, testing, maintenance, protection and treatment of private drinking water supplies including wells and springs. Participants may bring ONE sample per household of their drinking water for onsite water testing to include: bacteria, pH, total dissolved solids, and nitrate.
