Ellwood City United Fund Extends Fundraising Campaign

The Ellwood City United Fund board of directors will extend the annual fundraising campaign to January 31, 2019. “We feel and hope this will give the community extra time to respond for our plea of funds,” said United Fund Treasurer Andrew Kindle via email. Ellwood City & Beaver County Tree Disposal Information

With the Christmas season winding down, the once lively trees that brought joy and light up our homes are dying and needles are rapidly covering homes. From now until January 31, 2019, borough residents can drop these dying trees off at Stiefel Park. Due to the construction of the new public works building, the Christmas Tree drop off location has changed to the Women’s Softball (upper field) Field parking lot at Stiefel Park. Wolverine Basketball Teams Each Collect Tournament Championships

Both Ellwood City Wolverine boys and girls basketball teams collected holiday tournament championships over the weekend.  The boys basketball team took the Mercer Christmas Tournament championship Friday while the girls basketball team upset the host Spartans to collect a Laurel Christmas Tournament championship on Saturday. Wolverines Win versus Fort LeBoeuf Ellwood City was victorious against Fort LeBoeuf 63-48 on Friday with the help of Rick Pitrelli, who scored 20 points. Two Wolverine Wrestlers Place In Holiday Tournament

Last Thursday and Friday the Ellwood City Wrestling team traveled to Southmoreland to compete in their Holiday Classic tournament.  Austin Walley placed 2nd (182 pounds) and Donavin Chambers placed 3rd (138 pounds) Participating schools includes Bedford, Bethel Park, Burgettstown, Butler, Beth Cener, Chartiers Houston,  Elwood City, Frazier, Fort Cherry, Greensburg Salem, Hermitage, Indian Land (SC), Jefferson Morgan, Lee Davis (VA),  Ligonier Valley, Marion Center, Mt. Ellwood City Defeats Moniteau, Riverside Falls to Shaler

Our two local high school boys basketball teams split their opening games in selective Holiday Tournaments on Thursday. Ellwood City defeated Moniteau in its opening game of a Mercer Tournament while Riverside was knocked off by Shaler Area in its opening game of a Seneca Valley holiday tournament.  Games resume today for each boys basketball team. Cioffi Awarded Commendation For Service To Community

On Monday, former borough manager Joe Cioffi was honored with a plaque as a commendation for his 60 years of service to the community by Mayor Anthony Court. Cioffi, 81, had been serving as a temporary interim manager while the borough looked to find applicants after it was decided by council not to renew the former manager’s, Robert Villella earlier this year.
